That run was best served by someone living at the Virginia end of the run. A driver based there could have nearly a full weekend off. In my case, I'd get home Saturday afternoon and have to leave out Sunday night.JohnBoy Thanks this. -
JB it was great seeing you last night and meeting your student! He seems really nice, the shorts were weird though no just kidding! BH has a full breakfast, juice and coffee for free on the weekends here! It's very good and the price is right! Again, have a great holiday and cruise and don't forget our Cuban friends!!
gntorres61 and JohnBoy Thank this. -

exteremly well put. Poor NYC is gonna run out of supplies one of these days as the truck drivers retire and the steering wheel holders who refuse to run the city take over.Cranky Yankee and JohnBoy Thank this. -
We left BH in Brooklyn this morning after having a free breakfast in their cafeteria. We finished our 10 hour break, got our paperwork and left out going to Groveport. I want to say that because of my knowledge about the area, Kellan did a great job. I can't, he did an excellent job all by himself. The kid did an outstanding job, handled everything thrown at him, interacted with tough New Yorkers in an absolute professional manner, and thoroughly enjoyed his first trip ever to NYC. And this is from a kid born and raised in Texas. I have to fill out his final progress report, I've been asking for 5 weeks now just exactly why is he on my truck, I get it, the only thing I trained him on is policies and procedures, the driving part he's got. The professional attitude he's got, the think it through attitude he's got. The let me let my trainer sleep through the night attitude he's got. When I sign off on him tomorrow I'm going to know deep down inside of me that I won't be repowering his Brooklyn load because he's in Forest City crying that he has to go to the big bad city.
So, here's another reason I work here, we are in a BH circle. Forest city to Brooklyn, Brooklyn to Groveport, Groveport to the house with 3 drops. The problem with all this is Kellan needs to interview out and get his own truck on Monday. I'll be home for 2 weeks starting on Tuesday. I was going to have him put on another truck going back to Richmond and I would go straight down 75 to Florida. Instead, they redid my dispatch and are paying us an extra 390 miles to bring him to Richmond, drop him off then I will continue to Florida.
I did our miles for the ending pay period at midnight tonight. 11900 miles, 3 extra drops 2 NYC pay, and 675 miles worth of Northeast pay. This all comes out to $2350 for my trainee and $3350 for myself. I know this won't happen all the time, but it's worked out enough for a $64k year.
One last thing, my hours are a little tight to get me home to do my 3 drops Tuesday, with the miles to Groveport, (550) and the miles to Richmond, (488) Kellan offered to do all the driving to allow me to run the rest of my load home solo without worrying about my hours, what a kid.Last edited: Nov 22, 2014
