John, I am confused, I thought you were with FCC Fremont this entire time. What happened to that? I thought you said they were far better than Abilene.
Originally, I thought you transitioned from Abilene -> to -> FCC Fremont, no? Most importantly, how was your stay with FCC Fremont and what was the final straw that made you want to leave that company? -
Have no idea where that idea came from. Been with Abilene since 04/13/13. Before that I was with Calex from 07/10/08 to 04/04/13.
There are a few drivers at FCC that worked here at Abilene that went over to FCC.MidWest_MacDaddy and Lonesome Thank this. -
Sigh. Good Lord, it hurts to be stupid. I completely got you confused with runningman0661. You, JohnBoy, are the actual reason why I joined this forum/TruckersReport because I couldn't believe you were from the same area as me in Florida. Before you all I ever saw was truckers from the Midwest or FAR areas up in the Northwest area of the United States. Therefore, as soon as I saw you're from Lake Worth (Lantana here) I thought to myself '####, I could learn a thing-or-two from this guy and how to go about this trucking industry.'
I just got my CDL in early December and I just got hired by Swift because they're the only mega-carrier that'll take me in due to my address. Even CRST rejected me because they said I don't live far north in Florida enough for them to hire me. It was rough. With that being said, I plan on doing my year with Swift, if all goes well, and would love to transfer over to FCC to maximize my potential earnings. I'm not married, no kids and could care less about home-time for my first year. I just want to make as much money as possible.
The thing I observed about in these forums is that you've come to a point in your life where you have such a perfect balance between work and home time. I'd like to get to that point as well, albeit it isn't going to happen within the first 2-3 years, but by learning from you experienced drivers I hope to know which companies to switch over to and which companies to avoid (like CR England, CRST, etc.)
Even though I'm in my early 30s I heard that I should stick with OTR and avoid food services and flatbed at all costs because both of those options really wear out your body.ncmickey Thanks this. -
Was minus 17 when I left sidney, Ne this morning. Minus 3 now here in Mo.
MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
@Metsuri just a heads up FCC will not hire someone that lives that far South in Florida.

I actually live in between Ocala and Lantana area in Florida. I switch between both locations since I have family in both, but my CDL says I live down south because that's where my actual house is (being rented out to a family member). If need be I will change my address on my license to Fremont since I have family there and I can just use their location. Though, technically don't want to have an address since my ideal goal is to just stay on the road. Does that make sense?
That's why I don't really care about home time. I have my actual house being rented out which helps me financially but as for myself I just want to live in a truck or in remote locations so I can keep running the truck.
That was my main issue with CRST since I tried going with them before Swift. They said the location (South Florida) on my license meant I couldn't join their company since they require all employees to live within a certain range of their terminal. It was quite a deception but I now understand that a lot of companies are like that. It seems like the juice is worth the squeeze at FCC and like I said, if need be, I will change my address on my CDL to get hired there. Although I'd really like to get hired there without having to do that, obviously.
