My DM has been doing a great job of keeping me rolling. Calling me on Fridays before hometime to set up my load for Mondays when I get back, calling me before she leaves to make sure I have a load for the next day, etc etc.
Usually when people have a good experience, they don't mention it. They only mention it when things are bad and they're angry. I believe in telling people when things are good, so a couple days ago, on Wednesday, I decided I was going to call Cam (our operations manager) and let him know that my DM was doing a good job.
Dialed the main office number, and it rang, and it rang, and it rang, and it rang, and this continued on for some time and I didn't see any reason to be a ###### fool about it. So I hung up and figured I'd call back later. And then I got distracted by other stuff and it slipped my mind and I never made the call.
Just as well, as it turns out, because that night, my DM quit. She came in Wednesday night and cleared out her desk. Dunno if notice was given, but it certainly seemed like it came as a surprise to the other folks in the office.
And also Cam got fired three weeks ago, so I wouldn't have been able to tell him anyways.
Wonder who I'll end up with next week. -

If the number 2 in charge in the building can be let go by the number 1 in charge, and I might add, were lifelong friends, it really doesn’t matter why. It’s obvious no one’s job is secure. I figure as long as I do the same job today I did 10 years ago when I showed up, my job is pretty secure, remember, July of ‘24 is all I’m waiting for. Then they can fire everyone. Again, the janitor has the most job security in the building. That’s because nobody wants to clean the bathrooms after a day of truck driver abuse.IH9300SBA, ncmickey, jarhead0311 and 6 others Thank this.

No such thing as being loyal for 20-30 plus yrs at a company and getting rewarded with a big retirement party and a fancy watch these days. Most execs and business owners do not care about ppl and their families anymore. Heck, most are dumb as a box of rocks these days, especially the young ones with money. Buy a company and the first thing they do is get rid of the competent ppl that have been there forever and know their stuff job wise and try to replace them with incompetent kids right out of college with useless degrees for cheaper thinking they are saving tons of money….then they wonder why they have all kinds of issues that cost more than the salaries of the loyal competent ppl they got rid of.
Lonesome, runningman0661, JohnBoy and 2 others Thank this. -
This is going to be long so apologies beforehand. My first wrenching job was with a 500 truck flatbed company in my hometown. They bought out a company in Indiana and the CEO came with the purchase. Anyway, new CEO had a son in college that would work in the Parts Dept a couple days a week. He couldn't believe how much money was spent on fuel, tarps, tires, etc and thought it was being mismanaged. So the head of the Parts Dept put him in charge of fire extinguishers and told him we spent $XXX.XX/month last year and I want you to improve on that going forward. So college kid was full steam ahead and he was going to prove that money was being wasted and he could put a stop to it. Needless to say, he found out some things just can't be controlled that easily and he was unable to improve upon what they had been spending. It really opened his eyes as to how the real world is.
