How's freight coming out of Richmond anybody know?
4mer trucker Thanks this. -
Was sitting around Sunday night, babysitting my freight, when Edna beeped at me. Turns out, it was a pre-plan.
Weird thing was, it came in at 9:38pm. It's been a long, long time since I got a load assignment of any kind after office hours. Under normal circumstances, I can expect Edna to remain silent between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00am Richmond time, because we have no overnight load planners.
Hasn't always been this way. Back in the pre-Knight days, I would occasionally get them at night. I remember getting one once at 11:30pm, from the President of the company himself (who was putting loads together for West Memphis at the time). But those days are, as I say, long gone.
Assignment was to pick up in Baton Rouge at 3:00pm, deliver to Twinsburg, OH two days later at 9:00am.
Got to the receiver, who had a tiny little lot and very narrow docks. As predicted, they weren't sticklers about appointment times and were happy to take me a day early. Took me 30 minutes to blind-side in between the two other trucks there and bump the dock. Had like two inches of clearance between trailers. Was convinced I was going to tear a trailer door off its hinges, and probably would have if the other trailers were also swing-doors. Fortunately, they were both roll-ups, so I was able to squeak it in there. Got my stuff unloaded and headed to Baton Rouge.
Shipper in Baton Rouge had a truck stop conveniently located right next door, and I was in the market for food and a potty break, so I pulled in. Just as I was getting her parked, Edna beeped at me again with a new load assignment. Made some phone calls to figure out what HQ actually wanted me to do, considering I was looking square at the shipper where my original pre-plan was sending me. But no, they'd changed the load on me for whatever reason, so I moseyed up the road another 15 miles to a different shipper.
That shipper loaded the trailer with those big rolls of paper, to be delivered in Port Wentworth, GA. The original delivery time was a VERY optimistic 12:30pm today. If I had been able to leave the shipper already loaded at the precise moment I got the load assignment, I woulda still been 2 hours late. And the shipper kept me there four hours. So I called the broker to find out when the actual due-date was. Found out that the receiver is FCFS and I could get it there on Wednesday any time between 8:00am and 4:00pm. So it'll be there tomorrow at 8:30am, and then we'll see what else they got for me. I anticipate a trip to Atlanta in my future.dwells40, MACK E-6, jarhead0311 and 1 other person Thank this. -
