Welp, it turns out that the empty trailer I just hauled from Jeffersonville to New Castle...isn't. Pulled up to the New Castle gate and let the guard do his thing and he came back to the cab and told me there were two whole pallets of stuff on the trailer.
"How did you miss such a thing?" you may wonder! I'm glad you asked.
Delivery was yesterday morning in the wee hours. When I got the paperwork, the lady told me that the load had been short by a few items. I asked her if I needed to do anything on my end to deal with that. I didn't think there was, but since I still feel like a rookie sometimes despite nearly 7 years of experience, I figured it was best to ask. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to deal with an overage/shortage/damaged situation in those 7 years, and I'd have fingers left over. So it's not something that comes up often.
But no, she assured me that Tyson's does this all the time, and they would get everything sorted between them and Tyson's without needing anything from me or Abilene. So I headed back to the truck and pulled out of the dock to close the doors and slide the tandems. And it was dark. And the trailer was filled with fog and condensation such that I couldn't see the full length of the trailer. And I'd been given no indication by the receiver that anything had been left on the trailer. So I closed the doors, slid the tandems, and went on my merry way.
And here we are a day and change later and I'm sitting at the Mr. Fuel near New Castle while HQ figures out what I need to do with these two now-ruined pallets of chicken meat. Apparently "short" means "so we rejected the entire pallet" in WalMart-speak, which is not something I would have expected.motocross25 and Bumper Thank this. -
I bet that will have a wonderful aroma inside the trailer later today.

One of the very nice things about hauling Prime loads was that Walmart took everything off of the trailer....over, wrong, old, out of date...everything. They had it in their contract with Prime that they would take everything and not make the driver have to deal with it.Lonesome and ExtremeUnction Thank this.

Yeah, I turned the reefer back on pretty quicklike once I found out. It won't be enough to save it, but it'll at least keep the trailer from smelling like a slaughterhouse.drvrtech77, JohnBoy and Bumper Thank this.

Got pulled over in Ohio for a level 3 inspection which ended up putting me up against my 14 now. He got a little upset when the registration in the trailer didn’t match the trailer. First time I ever had that happen. Had safety email me the correct one so he could see so wouldn’t write me up. Guess Ill be checking that from now on instead of looking just to see it is there.
