Happy New Year to everyone at Abilene! I wish you all the best in the new year especially JohnBoy. I'm going to take my bride out to dinner tonight to celebrate our 44th anniversary and we'll be staying home for the holiday. Welcome 2024!!

You as well. I guess technically I’m still employed at Abilene while trying to negotiate this truck and trailer up I-95.

Back in the saddle. They offered me a few loads that were lame. Short miles, due tomorrow. But then they mentioned they had the Ikea delivery, picking up in Danville, delivering in Joliet at 11:30pm Friday. I have picked up three times in Danville, and despite the fact that the load assignment has always said "Live load", it has always been a drop-and-hook. Same with the delivery to Joliet. Says it's a live unload, but they told me last time that they were a 24/7 operation, and that I could drop it any time. So I told 'em I'd be happy to run that one.

Had to swing by Gordonsville to get an empty, so that added an extra batch of miles. After I left the shipper with my trailer full of mattresses in tow, I got a call from HQ wanting to know my ETA. I was figuring on stopping ASAP, then putting in a firm 8-10 hours tomorrow, and then delivering it 18 hours early on Friday. Which is when they told me that there'd been some kind of mix-up, and could I have it there tomorrow anytime before midnight?

So instead of stopping ASAP, I drove an additional 5 hours tonight and am parked at the TA in Hurricane. Will deliver the load tomorrow circa 5:00pm.
