You must be in Parsons, been to that place a few times. Always took 33 from 79 cuz coming from other direction is definitely not 53’ friendly.

Once the snow melts, it'll take the dirt with it.

Yep, that's the place. I was coming from Carlisle, PA. Shortest legal route was I-68 to US-219, which takes you right into Parsons. If it'd been the summertime, I might've tried it. But if WVDOT says "This road is dangerous at the moment," well, who am I to argue? We had a driver go off the side of the road on one of those West Virginia backroads back in 2017, and that was when the roads were dry.

Have you always been an O/O and I just don’t remember? Or when did you take that leap?

Yeah, Ive been on those roads in summer and I definitely do not recommend it with a 53’ trailer. Lots of roads in WV are marked truck routes but really aren’t truck friendly. Best way in and out of there is 33 from and back to 79. You gotta drive on the wrong side of the road for some of the turns with a 53’ trailer coming from 219 direction. The hills are definitely steep that direction too.

None of the above. I'm still a company driver. The truck I'm driving is an ex-Lease Op truck. Former owner couldn't make the payments, so it is now a company truck.

Downside is that nobody flashes their lights at me anymore. I am unrecognized by my fellow Abileenies.

Charcoal plant had a scale on the way out. Good thing, too, as I was 700 pounds over gross. Lady behind the glass rolled her eyes a bit, saying it was just the snow and ice on my truck, on the trailer, and on the scale. And sure, I'm willing to say that the snow and the ice had an effect. But 700 lbs of snow and ice seemed a bit beyond what I would think was reasonable. So they reluctantly removed a pallet from the trailer and sent me on my way.

Good thing, too, because I was still at the limit with one less pallet. Couldn't put in more than a quarter-tank of fuel without being overweight. Had to nurse the fuel gauge all the way to Atlanta.

As if that weren't enough, the load assignment gave me the wrong address for the receiver. Fortunately, the BOL had the correct address and it was just five minutes away from the wrong address.
