Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Wound up with a BH load delivering to Albuquerque and then to Scottsdale and Phoenix. It's got 2 days of dead time on it, but my dad lives in Albuquerque, so I'm going to take a 34 I don't need and spend some time with the Old Man and won't be too fussed about layover.

 

All of those places will take it early if you didn’t want to sit, just call ahead with eta.

 

I always hate when I hit that situation. Oh I do it but not with a smile on my face at all.

I remember Abilene had one customer, I can’t remember where but it was a small 3 dock location, that didn’t have a yard dog so every load that went in there was that very same routine. Drop load, move MT, hook load, bump dock, grab MT, roll out. Rinse; Repeat the next time. Luckily I only went there a few times.

 

One of the very few actual benefits of OTR work, being able to actually visit folks that may not live close to you without a plane trip or using a weeks vacation up to do it.

Enjoy the time with him. As a father I know what it means when kids go out of their way to visit… or not. LOL

 

Speaking in tongues comes in handy now and then.

 

Green Forrest Cabinetry in Chesapeake was like that. Drop mty, get loaded trl out of the dock, drop it, put mty in dock, hook back to loaded trl. I did quite a few of their d/h when I was local. The girl that was there would usually just call me directly to move trls for them once I started picking up there regularly. It was easier in the Mack than the Volvo, for sure, but still a PITA to do.

 

Dam, turbo leaking oil. Headed to RVA from Charlotte

 

Oil leak fixed, of course they didn’t clean the spilled oil up though. Turbo doesn’t whistle like it was so assuming it is actually fixed. Got sent a hill phoenix load to drop on Wytheville yard but get to plant one and trailer not ready sitting in a door with red light and no paperwork plus the moron that dropped this trailer didn’t bother to remove the explosive hazmat decals on it so technically can’t drag this trailer down the road anyway. I know they are hard to remove without a scraper and adhesive remover but said moron should have went by the trailer shop or body shop because Im sure they could have got the placards off. Waiting to see if they get a hold of somebody here to find out about this load. Need to be home tomorrow for my doc appointment Friday at the VA, cuz otherwise I probably won’t get back in until next year short handed as they are if can’t make it.

 

If you have to deal with those sticky placards much, it’s good to invest in a bernzomatic torch kit. Just heat it up back and forth and they peel right off, and they come in handy for other things running in the winter time.

 

Yeah, that works better probably. Been debating whether to carry one of them in my set of tools being they are good to heat up frozen brakes in the winter too.
