At the Petro in Milan, NM. After I delivered in ABQ, they sent me to the Colton yard to drop my empty reefer and take a dry van to Anthony in Sylmar. Currently loaded with refrigerator doors headed to Hill-Phoenix.
While I was at Colton, I got curious and counted. There are 18 trailers (mostly reefers) on the Colton yard that are out-of-service for one reason or another. Several of them have expired inspections, and a few of them have been there for over a year. Others are red-tagged, often with no writing on the tag to indicate what the problem is. And a few are loaded with old, undelivered freight that needs to be disposed of. One such trailer is loaded with bags of flour, and has an inspection that expired June 2021.
I have tried to get the word out to someone who might care. We'll see how it goes. That's a lot of reefers just sitting around gathering dust, when we're running short for BH loads. And I can't imagine that C.R. England is super happy about us taking up so much of their lot.jarhead0311, dwells40, MACK E-6 and 3 others Thank this. -
Fear not. The last time I was there in November, there was 24 empty reefers, they’ve come a long way since November. I’m thinking that when Knight/Swift Holdings Corp balanced the books and came up with that $71 million dollar loss, they put their foot down and made a dent in the equipment that can only be addressed as abandoned.jarhead0311, dwells40, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.

Cleaning up trash has nothing to do with accounting .

As far as I’m concerned, it’s a trickle down effect. Until they pay me my 401K match, I will be a very vocal voice of displeasure. I don’t, for one bit really care how many trailers they have abandoned 2700 miles from the main terminal sitting for months on end, how much money they lost last quarter or last year, asking the number one in charge of KS Holdings to step down or what ever else they have going on. Just give me my match and we can all move on to greener pastures just as I did on January 2nd. For the first 5 years our match was every week, after Knight/Swift Holdings bought Abilene, the next 6 years was yearly, paid on or before the 15th of February. I fulfilled my end of the bargain, I only expect the same. But, you’re exactly correct, it’s an accounting thing. They lost money, so now let’s take it out of the ###’s of the working man. We aren’t talking a lot of money, the maximum I am entitled to is $3000. If they need that money to correct accounting or clean up the trash so be it. It’ll be my loss but at least I’ll have a social media platform to express my thoughts. It’s obvious the almost 11 years of safe driving and ontime performance I gave Abilene means zero. I’m getting constant mailing, phone calls and other correspondence from Principal, the company that oversees the 401K about what my options are now that I am no longer employed there, one of which is to leave it alone, which is what I’m doing. The minute the match is made, if it is, the $160K I have in the KSH plan will be transferred over to my IRA. The only benefit about this is my 401K the last year has made an 8% gain, which for a 401K is good. Sorry about the rant, I’m just a little pissed off about how these billion dollar companies treat their bread and butter. I’ll step back now.Last edited: Mar 31, 2024

You don’t have an S&P 500 fund available? That’s up over 25% in the last year. No offense meant but it sounds like you’re pretty conservative in your investments.
dwells40 Thanks this. -
Cant get much more “bad management” than loads still sitting in drop lots 3 years after they were picked up.jarhead0311, dwells40, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this.

We are. We changed over to conservative with our investments when I turned 65 3 years ago. My wife turns 65 in July. Everyday I wake up and say thank you. Retirement was achieved 8 years ago. I’m working still so I can carry our health insurance until my wife turns 65.jarhead0311, dwells40, Lonesome and 3 others Thank this.
