After that AL load Thursday got sent to Volvo for a York load that dropped Sat. Week turned out better than I thought it would though short of what Id like to have. After that I got sent to Perryville for a GE load to an island in the OBX area to a small appliance and furniture warehouse. That was interesting to say the least. Apparently we outbid NussBaum for that lane and he said a few drivers of outs refuse to go there again and we also had a driver end up rolling in the ditch trying to back in cuz they swung too wide and a crane had to come in and pull the truck out. It is tight there but no worse than some of the Boar’s Head places we used to go to. He explains the best way to get in the dock but some drivers get an attitude. I put it right in no problem cuz the way he explained it was the only way to do it right. I imagine Ill be getting sent there a lot until we lose it or get outbid ourselves.

Got back in the truck yesterday morning, and was given a 5 hour load that didn't deliver until today. Pick up in Williamsburg, deliver in Smyrna, DE.

Follow-up load was a pickup in Millville, NJ, to be delivered in central Massachusetts tomorrow. Did this run a couple weeks ago. Not a bad little trip, aside from the GW Bridge and the Cross Bronx Expressway. I considered taking US17 in New Jersey up to 287 and going way around NYC, but that adds enough extra miles that I'd feel guilty doing it.

The big amusement of the day, though, was that I finally, after 9 years of working at Abilene, got to haul trailer 6666. It's been here longer than I have, and I've seen it now and again. Almost came close to hauling it as an empty once, but it was red tagged.

Crank handle was stiff, but otherwise it was in fine shape. Freshly inspected, too.

Got a phone call this morning asking the best way to back into the dock at that warehouse in the OBX area I delivered to yesterday cuz apparently another driver put it in the ditch this morning, the third driver to do that. The guy that unloads you explains it perfectly how to do it and even says honk the horn if you need him to come out and watch the right side to make sure you don’t go in the ditch. Guess nobody listens to him and they don’t get out and look if need be….I explained how to do it but said to just have drivers listen to the guy that unloads u and get out and look. Costing lots of money to bring a crane or rotator I bet, lol!

Back here in Whately, MA. Delivered here to the Yankee Candle factory. This is the place that has the tiny little diner just a mile down the road.

Discovered today that the diner has a shower. It's not a great shower, but it's also only $4, and I didn't feel like jungling it up in the bunk with some baby wipes.

The amusing thing is that the shower is in the back of the men's room. There's a stall door separating it from the rest of the men's room, but that's it. So in addition to me having to walk past all the diner patrons with my backpack and my towels to get to the shower, anybody who came in to use the restroom would be treated to the unmistakable sounds of me being buck nekkid just a few feet away.

An awkward moment for all concerned, I'm sure.

There was a place over in Norfolk I delivered insulation to a lot when I was local that was like that. The guy would come out and direct you. He’d tell you don’t look anywhere else but at him. You’d hit the dock perfectly every time. If you’d try to do it on your own, it’d take forever. It looked deceptively simple, but it wasn’t.
