First off, welcome. The truth about our produce? It's for teams only, and the extent of us chasing around California for it is entirely in Colton at the Walmart produce center. All we do is either live load it at the produce center or drop and hook. As a solo driver you won't be seeing produce, you might grab a load of it and swap out with a team, that would be it.
You might hear about the lack of west coast solo freight from others, that's not my issue. I've had my share of west coast freight, I've also had just as many LTL runs out of Richmond that had more paid miles than running to California. Those I'll take any day. I've had 3200 mile runs and made it as far as Idaho. I've also had 2600 mile runs and wound up in Edmonton Alberta. These loads are here. You will get them solely based on your performance. When I started here, you had to be here six months before they sent you west, now it's being in Richmond the right time of the week.
You can do 10/4, but it will hold you back somewhat with those runs. The best thing for me is the fact that we are paid every 2 weeks. It allows one to grab an extra day at the house and come back out, and run a little harder to make it up. I just had one of the best loads since I came to work here, it was a load home, 1095 miles and 14 drops, all the drops came off in one day and I was home that afternoon.

I wish we had the opportunity to work smarter and not harder. We just got paid this past Friday, my check was right where it needed to be, except it was based on 12 loads. My pay check 2 weeks ago was just the same, except it was based on 6 loads. We don't have the opportunity to pick and choose our loads, you take what they give you and run.

As to your last comment, bit harsh don't you think... If he is excited about coming to our company yet has responsibilities at home and is left with the impression that he can have both, I don't see directing it to him as being in the wrong field but rather towards the one that lead him to believe it's possible.
Because of similar comments and a few other observations since being here, I have opted to run regional until my wife can join me over the road as a Team Couple... But I bet soon someone here will be telling me there is no such thing as a regional driver with options to be home every weekend... LOL ... -
Well, looks like it's time to get my popcorn for this show

R.c. is correct though. If I asked my fleet manager that, he'd look at me like I were slow lol

MD, Walter told me that just Friday! I asked if I could be home more due to my mother's health issues and he said if I wanted to be home every weekend I'd have to run strictly NE and that there's no difference between regional and OTR as far as a solo driver is concerned. So, who is telling the truth and who isn't? That is one thing I dislike. I'm to the point, probably too much so sometimes and if I'm told something by mgmt I expect it to be the same across the board, but it isn't. And I wasn't saying local job as a not in trucking job either. Believe me, I would love to find something local and have it work out. I'd be gone in a half a heartbeat. Your first comment made me laugh out loud! Sally (upstanding woman who used to be in recruiting) didn't sugarcoat or embellish to get drivers in the door. Just sayin'.
runningman0661 Thanks this.
