Just got empty with my onions at the Chicago produce market. Got here at 8:25 and was empty at 10. I'm impressed. Nice place, clean and a pleasure all around, nothing like the old market I was at 25 years ago just up the street.
Lonesome and RebelChick Thank this. -
It's been a minute since I last posted, got my paperwork in order and will be starting training on the 18th. It's a 4 week course, which I'm hoping will just be a refresher course, since I drove before the Navy. Then I dash home to PA to drop my pickup off. I am on the fence with who to go with, Melton or Abilene. Melton is more challenging with load securment but they have a good reputation as does Abilene. Abilene HQ is closer to home. I do like the sound of the autoshifts at Abilene. So decisions, desisions. Thanks for listening to my situation.

Melton has no better rep out here with drivers then most other newbie flat bedders
Magnum and Abilene are the only 2 companies i could reccomend to any new driver at the moment
and if you had your heart set on flatbed it would be MaverickMidWest_MacDaddy, tractorman1970 and JohnBoy Thank this. -
Correctomundo on what Pete said. Me personally? I find nothing rewarding about trying to tarp or untarp a load in the winter in Chicago or Wyoming. Almost the same as trying to do it in South Florida in July. Just sayin'
MidWest_MacDaddy, tractorman1970, runningman0661 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm leaning towards Abilene mainly due to this thread, I realize no company is perfect, but for the most part it seems like a solid place to work. Thanks fellers!MidWest_MacDaddy and JohnBoy Thank this.

I'm all signed up for training, start on the 18th and complete by the 12th of February. Then I need to get the road test completed. Then head for PA. The ball is preveribly rolling.
MidWest_MacDaddy and JohnBoy Thank this. -
I can't even make my bed with "hospital corners" let alone tarp a load correctly... I have no choice but to stay away from flat beds... LOLJohnBoy and tractorman1970 Thank this.

Awesome... Good luck with School!!!
{Attempts to nudge the rolling ball towards Richmond area... grunt... Ugh... darn it's hard to divert such a big object already in motion}tractorman1970 Thanks this. -
That's odd... We normally scare them away... We must be off our game lately... Must work harder on that.tractorman1970 Thanks this.
