Just adding to the thought train here. The mileage difference has never really been very large, at least for me

some companies are worse then others about being close to miles driven
for me i could care less about miles it is the revenue
if they tell me they are going to pay me $952 to drive to Sacramento from Green Bay
do i really care if how many miles it is or how many pennies per mile it is?
companies could lower the drivers rate from $.41 to $.40 increase miles from 2200 to 2250
you then drive it in 2220 so you think you beat the system rather then you lost $20

Yes, that and I would rather spend my time grabbing the next load and hitting the road than chasing that $3.60 because i think I just drove 10 miles for "free"... By the time I talk to whoever and prove it was 10 miles further than what they said it was, if they would even take the time... I could be on a long haul and had 60+ miles under my belt.

So which time was I working for "free"?

Taking the time to drive more miles or using that same time to chase prior miles that I had already invested time to drive and now I am investing even more time to collect?

And then oops, someone else just got that nice long haul and left me with two or three less desirable short hauls while I was chasing butterflies.

To address the "run/get ahead" aspect of your question... Yes, although I had time to get here and the drop date/time isn't until Tuesday 9am PT (Noon ET) because I did use all of my clock each day and was able to run faster than the estimated 50 mph, I now only have 10 hours left to get there... Which means I will leave here after my 10 at 8am ET and get there around 6pm ET which is 3pm PT...

So I will call the broker in the morning and see if I can move up the scheduled drop date/time from Tuesday morning to Monday afternoon.

If possible, I will then be able to start my next order as soon as my next 10 is completed and now I am a half day "ahead" and starting my next load. I just reclaimed a half day of drive time and adding bonus money to my paycheck.

It doesn't always work like that but it's rather nice when it does.

    White_Knuckle_Newbie and Jrdude5 Thank this.

Also don't forget that running hard up front if you are using recap hours you will get those hours back sooner

Ugh... Just the thought of hanging out in the same truck stop for 34 hours straight just sends shivers up my spine... Would much rather run a few light/short days while my hours catch up to me... But that's just me.
