Isn't the pay a livable wage during training also?
Transam has only 10 days training then they put drivers who dont have a clue out on their own
A recipe for disaster
The true shame is CDL schools only teach you enough to pass the test at the DMV

That is a shame... And, it's becoming increasingly dangerous. I remember when I went to "Truck Driving School" in 1979. I had to learn how to drive before the school would "pass" me. Then, when I went back for a "refresher" course, all the school seemed to want was my money. After 40 hours, I was "certified" again.
Returning to the OP's original question:
The typical training period is not long enough in some cases and too long in others. I suppose the variable answer is "it depends." In numeric terms, two weeks to several months. But, once the "Student" hits the road, that's when the real lessons and learning experiences begin.gntorres61 and JohnBoy Thank this. -
Our trainee pay has be readjusted....downward. It use to be where they were making $1000-1300 per week. Now it's a salary of $500-700 per week depending what stage you're in.

Right now I'm being chauffeured as I stretch out in the bedroom. I figure we can make Umatilla and Kirkland Monday with me taking a nap every so often.

Ok, I'm going too say it, my trainee, Carl, is doing very well. It's only taken me 2 years of this to finally get a trainee that listens, asks questions, and takes notes instead of pictures. Oh, and he's a clean freak just like me.

Well had to call into Sandra today, and let her know to push orientation back one week to the 11th.Reason being my company is going to run me my 2 weeks notice.Plus will give me a chance to get home and get my drug test and physical done,so I won't have to worry about it at when I get to Richmond.

Well, trucking has me so spoiled... Now when I leave Walmart, I need to remember just where the #3// I parked the car... nothing Big n Green in the lot to tell me where I parked... LOL

Update. Called Friday and was told they are still processing. Had a quick question by the way. What sort of freight do they haul? Look's like a dry van company.
-
A lot of dry but we also do a fair share of reefer too. We have several main customers... Some are very light loads, others can be fairly heavy. Back haul can be anything.
A good mix of Drop n Hook with live load/unload but all of it is no touch.
The Frieght in general is very good quality loads... no Dollar General stuff here.Rocknroller4 Thanks this.
