Hell, even I can change a fuse, put oil & coolant in. I can even change a headlight and swap out air lines. I've even figured out a few tricks when the pins won't release on the tandems. Some stuff I knew, others I picked up along the way. Don't get me wrong, playing the "helpless female" gets you a little ways, but only so far, in this world. Little secret, I can even change a tire when necessary (but I let the shop or road service handle the big stuff!).

As for the miles, yup, if you do a solid for dispatch, usually you'll get it back. I just had the same type of issue come up. Picked up a load of 4-wheelers from Givens in Chesapeake off home time (which was a day longer due to my mothers health) to Marietta OH. Got a dh move to Wytheville. On the way down, I got a pick up at Gatorade to Indy 450 mi. A little while later, got a different assignment which was only 200 miles for delivery Saturday morning. Was irritated that they took a longer run away, but didn't say a word to Steve in Wytheville about it. Met the most awesome woman who was excited to see a female driver. And she adored my hubby! We chatted it up pretty much the whole time folks were coming to pick up all this hay - -4 hours worth. Talked up Abilene and she said she was interested in doing business with us and would give them a call to discuss. Currently, her main 2 are Schneider and USX. Got back in the truck to a load assignment for Fort Myers FL for Monday. So, in the end, it worked out just fine.

No, we do have regional drivers that are not "NE regional drivers" I know because of custody reasons I am now. Home every weekend, and I'm not dedicated NE regional. Regional drivers run out of every yard we have. Wytheville and W. Memphis have local drivers too.

Sorry if i am hijacking this thread.

I am interested in Abilene's training program and if they hire out of MA?

Sounds like a good place to work.

    Thanks!

I hauled that load of four wheelers before. Was yours just one stop because I had 7 stops on mine. It was fun though

they allowed me to park in the front parking lot of the building... Their back dock area was cramped and very busy with different trucks coming and going... But the front lot was less than half full. So I parallel parked between a car and a truck and took my ten right there on site.

Whew... I was a bit concerned about where to take my 10 at as well. Someone was watching over me that day... ;-)

No... We do not have "Regional Drivers" for any place but the Northeast... Ask me how I know.

    :)

You situation is more an exception than the rule and probably a great example of the company working with a Driver in a situation.

    ;-)
