Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Amen to that! Variable is a good word. Regional out of Richmond can be either only the NE, to be home every weekend or every other weekend is pretty much OTR without the possibility of going out west most of the time - according to what I was told. Wytheville is different. W Memphis is different. Hell, they're all different depending on who you talk to and the same person can give you a different answer on a different day!

 

I'm still avoiding Bill Walsh like the plague. I don't want one of those KWs either!

 

This is probably going to be a dumb comment to make, so everyone take your ticket to rag on me later...but anyway.
When our company orders our trucks...this "Abilene" green isn't a standard color so I'd guess they have to pay extra for a special paint job. Would make dollars and cents to me to have whatever color they came from the factory to save money. Or...... maybe it doesn't cost that much??

 

I'm still on track to take my physical in New Orleans next Friday. I added up my class hours, and I am looking to graduate on April 20th. Rolling right along.

Any color that's not the normal Abilene green is a lease truck. When you want to lease you can choose your color. It's $630 a week for five years if I remember correctly. They are only leasing new now from what I understand.

 

And that's if you actually get any answer!!!

 

They just swing by John Deere and pick up a load or two of the green stuff.

Your thoughts would be accurate for a one off special painted truck... But... When you get 80 trucks at a time, from several brands, I doubt it's all that much more due to the volume on paint being used and doing several trucks all in the same color. It's one color run at the plant.

Plus Volvo and KW won't have the same stock paint colors either so nothing would match between brands.

Plus, it's the corporate image that is being built too by using the same color... Our green trucks are identifiable from miles away. That has value too.

 

And I am still taking a ticket for later...

 

Or buy a used truck too...
