Snipped............. I told Allen he really needs to get a hand on his people as their communication skills are surely lacking and it is putting a strain on us.
This has been my concern/complaint since I first hired on. And to this day I feel the driver is the last to know anything and isn't kept in the loop whatsoever. We might be truck drivers, but trust me, some of us come from a diverse background. Some have a college degree, some have been very successful business owners that sold their business for a very high profit, some of us don't solely count on the income from driving a truck, some have spouses that make as much, if not more then their driver spouses, and some do this after all these years because they truly love this profession.
i constantly hear about this driver shortage, all one needs to do is look at the top of the pecking order. As its been said time and time again, sheet rolls down hill. You want yo micro-manage? Then you will get a driving force that won't think on their own and will over burden operations with BS issues, you want drivers that can solve issues on the road, then keep them in the loop. This is their truck, their business, their money, but at the end if the day it's drivers that are on the front lines of this industry. I enjoy working here, but I've been around long enough to realize that all these companies are the same, the only difference is the paint color.
Im sorry if I am coming across as a party pooper, but just reading what Uturn wrote peeked my interest and made me realize I am not the only one that goes through this.

Great post and couldn't agree more it doesn't matter if its on the battle field of in the business world communication is the key to success at ALL levels. You ask employees of a great company what makes them happy and the company successful I bet communication is at the top of the list. The Challenger Thanks this. -

Amen! Give me the desired result and let me know the information and i will complete the objective successfully. Let me have enough rope and we will make them and their #'s look good OR I can go into non-intuitive, completely reactive lacking initiative dumas who can only hold the wheel...i feel i have made progress with my dm/fm, but the attitude as a whole has to change/grow/evolve. Otherwise intelligent drivers will tire of it and pursue other interests and they are left with drivers that forget tp fuel reefers, run out of hrs and blow scales...make us suffer like fools. This is why I am trying my best to excel here. Oh well headed to Tampa with hummus!

I learned a long time ago when I was a Squad Leader wearing the green about communication over the radio. Calling for support and resupply and the like become a very serious issue if not communicated properly. When I owned my business if there was a communication gap between me and my customer I would have ruined a lot of emotions (I used to be a wedding photographer). Sorry if I started a negative slide but it needed to be said. Maybe when drivers are standing around b****ing ask if they brought it up to someone higher. I don't accept the "It'll never change comment". If the nail gets struck enough it makes its way through a flat surface.

I ended my day at 2:15 this morning in Wilcox Az. Went inside to wash up, David was up and went in also. After getting back to the truck I mentioned to him that there's this cop that sits in the middle as you top the hill coming into Las Cruces and that he's been there for the 30+ years I've been driving and to be careful when he gets there. 2.5 hours later I get woke up listening to him cursing. He got pulled over and was getting a level 3 on the side of the road. It wasn't as bad as it could have been. Warning for speeding, and a ticket for no trailer registration and no current insurance certificate. I have them now. I guess it's my bad, I should have checked for them when I was assigned the truck last week and picked up the trailer the other night. Oh well, poop happens.
