I think you just go whereever the loads need to go. I was under the impression that the long west coast runs were primarily for teams but it seems that a few solos have gotten them.

Im still a newb so i tend to keep my head down and go whereever rather bthan ask for specific areas.

I'm still a rookie. I drove for 9 months back in 06 and 07. I surrendered my 1st CDL when I had shoulder surgery a month before my DOT physical expired.

Went back to school and was an over achiever. Abilene picked me up quick and started me as a refresher. I had no prior elog experience. But they almost gave me a truck after my test drive, but I declined for the elog training. Would have been solo in a week, but a cancelation of a run screwed that up. But was issued a truck before the 2nd week expired.

As your experience is more recent than mine, and if you know the elogs, you could solo out right off.

I tend to gripe alot, so take me with a grain of salt.

I lucked out with that sugar run. It was only 23k so no need to scale and i got loaded 1.5 hrs early.

Despite JBs instructions i was still struggled figuring out where to go and what to do.

    BUT

Now i know exactly what to do and hope i never have to do it again :)

@Redtwin I'm guessing that was you pulling out of HP with a trailer. I am with you, furthest west since solo has been Ohio.

Ya, just talk to the recruiter (if you have not yet I can recommend who to talk to) and they will be able to give you a better idea how long to expect to be in the training program. Then it's up to the trainer and safety to see how you are doing. Like you said, nice refresher course, and to learn how Abilene does stuff before going solo.

Ya, gotta take the good with the bad... And those days running will feel good on the paycheck once you run solo.
