I'm sure you could park the truck at a truck stop or somewhere secure. Most companies now don't want the truck separated from the trailer on home time unless instructed to do so. Or maybe Abilene is different I don't know??

Man you guys have no idea how fortunate y'all are to have a resource like johnboy around. Personally if I worked for ame I'd be nominatin that cat for one a them sweet driver of the year awards that gives em a car or a vacation or free lot lizards for a year or somethin. Schwag city.

I saw a lot of conversation bout the per diem earlier and thought I'd throw in my take based on a couple former employers...mine was .08 per mile at both, from what they and my accountant told me it was the highest they could get away with paying and not run into irs trouble...and no matter what they tell you about per diem the benefit is to the company, not the driver, cuz it lowers the taxes they have to pay on your behalf. It also lowers your income for social security reasons i.e. the formula they look at when determining your benefits. Just another scam, albeit a fairly benign one. There are certain situations where a per diem can help the driver, like in child support cases where they base your payments on your income, cuz per diem is not a part of that formula.

I'm sure this doesn't help much but it did make sense to me at the end of the day.

After having read most of this thread, I couldn't agree more about John and if ya ever nominate him I'll second it. ;) ... Your description of per diem fits with what I've always heard about it. I've never had it so I don't know personally.

    JohnBoy and scottlav46 Thank this.

I know a driver that used to gripe about per diem, but when he filed for social security @ age 66 he was entitled to $2,300.00 a month. Not bad considering the maximum benefit he can receive at age 66 is $2366.00

Marry some young hot woman and have a couple of babies and you can max out at $3300.00 monthly because the babies get money plus the wife gets caregiver pay for taking care of her own babies. It's all legal because you paid into it all your working life.
I told him that's what he should do and he looked at me dumbfounded and said loudly,"Are you crazy?"

Spot on regarding the per diem.

Lot Lizards for a year eh? Not sure JB would take advantage of that "prize" but his Trainees would love being on his truck... LOL

    Welcome to Trucking!!!

Seriously, we all comment about "stuff" but our "stuff" is still better than other companies "stuff".

You will have to tell us who is doing your training once you hit Orentation... I hear the Brian has moved along.

And I really liked him too... :-(

Well, I'm not sure who my trainer will be but I can almost guarantee, you'll probably know him. ;)

Been meaning to throw a big Thank You for posting the short list of companies you did. Prior to this thread and your list, I'd never even heard of most of them. Much appreciated sir!
