At least you got that far, we fought a snowstorm over Flag, an ice storm across Oklahoma, monsoon rains across Arkansas and tornados across Tennessee, George mentioned the only thing missing was a swarm of locusts across NC.

Truckin, what a long crazy road it's been, god I love that song. We dropped our load in Charlotte early yesterday morning, they had no empties, I already had 2 deadhead moves assigned to me, one to take George to Kenly to get him to his car to go home, then one for me to dead head to the terminal. We had to bobtail a few miles to grab an empty at another customer, I went to sleep and the next thing I heard was George setting the brakes at the J in Kenly. He got his car, we loaded it, said our goodbyes and off to richmond I went.

I pulled into the yard about noon and saw most of the fleet parked on top of each other. Right away my brain kicked into negativity about heading home. I mean I only called and asked for the last two days about what they will be doing with me when I get in and all I heard was we'll have something. I dropped the empty, fueled then went in to see Jonathan. He had something alright, and it was strictly something to get a driver home for Christmas. I was given a bobtail move to bobtail 945 miles to Miami to pick up an empty trailer at a customer. I asked him when I should pick up the trailer and he told me before Friday. I plan on picking it up late today so I won't have to deal with it on Friday before I head back north to get George. I have a few more things to write but I'll do it when I get home, not from the petro restaurant in florence sc.

I am truly blessed to be with Johnboy and my new family at Abilene Motor Express and sitting here on my porch in Plymouth NC where it is still balmy reflecting on this past year. I had been a dispatcher at Waste Management of Hampton Roads until February 15 this year. They centralized dispatch to Columbia MD and told me I could apply for the position if I was interested. Nope, took the severance and ran. Hire somebody else who doesn't know the area to dispatch my area. Go ahead. Moved to NC with my wife to live with her parents who are elderly to aid them. Saved my severance checks to go to Sage Trucking School in Rocky Mount (75 miles away) in July, finished in late August, went to work for Howard Transportation out of Laurel Mississippi on a flatbed (what the hell was I thinking) and washed out with them in my eighth week of training, the last week of October. Filed for unemployment, but by the time I qualified, I had caught on with Abilene. After a 19 day trip, which was mostly glorious, I too have finally found my new home with this company. The people, the trucks, the freight, the superb maintenance team, the miles, it's here. ALL HERE. There is a wonderful sense of community here and I felt that early on when Sally Arndt called me just six hours later after I emailed my application at 2 in the morning. I had put in ten or so applications elsewhere and heard back from only Estes. I am grateful to be a part of this company, I am lucky and blessed too. Who's got it better than us? Nobody!! Merry Christmas to all of my new Abilene family!!

Wow!!! A 945 mile bobtail move? And to think, I was astonished when Louie had me bobtail from Pittston to Petersburg, VA.

Seems to me that the sign of a good company they're getting you home for Xmas no matter how much it costs them. Not many companies around like that anymore all to busy trying to make money and not caring about their big asset the workers.
