I made it to the Loves in Dunn NC and called it a day yesterday. I had 75 miles to go to my delivery in Henderson. I decided to stay there instead of driving up to the Chex T/S. I was told by my buddy, Chris, "the rookie", that Haji and his boys charge $10 to park, which is ok, except the smell and cleanliness is like a third world country. So, I stayed in Dunn. I left at 4am, got to the D/C at 5:45am, was backed in at 6am and was done at 8am.
I sent in my empty call and got a deadhead move back to Richmond. I had to drop my reefer at our customer then bobtailed the 8 miles back to the yard. I went inside and saw Jonathan and was given a load to Riverside Ca that loads tomorrow at 10am and delivers Thursday at 7am. This load will allow me to not have to drive straight through. I also checked in with the shop and told them I need a new passenger side windshield. They said to be back in the morning at 7am and they'll put it right in. Right now I'm at the motel having a relaxing Sunday.
George got here around 11am, he too is in the motel. He wanted to stay in the truck then realized for the cost of the room he can relax also and watch football all day.Last edited: Dec 29, 2013
Lonesome Thanks this. -
Hey JohnBoy, I have two years OTR experience. Been out of the truck for six months. I drove for Averitt Express for 18 months. They use auto shift transmissions. If I were to apply at Abilene would they send me out for awhile with a trainer to get me back up to speed driving a manual? Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hey Big Mike if I can answer for Johnboy, you're in luck. All our trucks are AUTOMATICS. No worries there and these trucks are well maintained. Just check the CSA scores. Not sure if you would need to go out with a trainer but with your experience, I doubt it would be for very long. Sally Arndt could answer that for you and I have included the number in this post. You are picking a really good company here at Abilene. No company is perfect, but we are treated really well here. I am just a trainee been here for more than a month. The only real difference than Averitt is that you are required to be out a minimum of 10-14 days. I think Averitt got you home every week. But hey, hard to make money when you go home every week. Call Sally Arndt 800-486-5985 in recruiting. Folks here are nice as you have gathered reading the blog. Come join us, man. Best wishes.

Gee, you actually got to talk to Jonathan? He told me I had to qualcomm him because they don't dispatch from the window anymore. And this was yesterday at 2 pm.

Why is it that companies wonder why they have turnover rates but don't listen and address the issues when they are brought to their attention? -

Bouncing across eastern Oklahoma. My god, what a way to try and get some sleep. I wish the research and developement departments for these truck manufacturers would get out of their offices and occasionally take a trip across the country and try to sleep in the exact trucks they design and build.
We left richmond at noon yesterday. It took the glass company 4.5 hours to show up and exactly 20 minutes to replace the right side windshield. I'm waiting on a reply from dispatch about dropping this load at our colton yard. We'll be there at noon local time tomorrow and the load delivers Thursday at 9am. I'm hoping to get out from under this load and keep moving.
