Hello all. I am new here and thinking of getting my CDL. I have read quite a few post that have answered a lot of the questions that I have/had. One thing that I am still curious about is DAC/MVR. I current have a reg. DL in KY and am planning to go to school and obtain a CDL. My problem is that I had a DUI 7 years and one 14 years ago in Florida, now will a prospective employer be looking strictly at my KY MVR (which sparkles) or will any records include Florida?

For one thing , any application you fill out will ask about past convictions . They will know if you lie . I just renewed my KY CDL . They mailed me a form in advance that asked for DL numbers of any license I've had in the past 10 years . I moved to KY from GA nine years ago . I didn't know my GA DL number so I called GA DMV . They told me they only kept records 7 years . I brought the form when I renewed my CDL and told them GA no longer had the info . They put my SS# in the computer and found the info GA said they didn't have . I posted earlier about a driver that was hired showing a clean MVR . 2 months later the company leased Ryder tractors . Ryder ran this driver's MVR and it showed a suspension in NY 4 years earlier . So yeah , an MVR check will turn up the DUI's . Don't count on getting a driving job .
psanderson Thanks this. -

I have seen old time drivers who don't take care of out of state violations in a timely manner, thinking they can slide under the radar. They'll just stop driving through that state. They eventually go to the DMV office to renew their CDL, the clerk runs a CDLIS check and BOOM. CDL suspended for 60-120 days. At the very least, they will have to take the knowledge and skills test again.
A CDL driver may get away with an outstanding violation for years. But eventually CDLIS will catch up with them. -
I'm quite certain CDLIS is used at state scalehouses also . That would be a bad place to learn of a license suspension. So fair warning to potential drivers . You know what violations you have had . Don't think something will slide just because you have a clean MVR to show .

Thanks for all the replies. My original question actually has to do with never having had a CDL. It seems that FLA. has decided 8 years after the fact that I still owe them money, even though I know I had to pay to get my license back originally, they have put a suspension on my license there. I got an MVR for FLA. on Monday that showed this (wouldn't have known otherwise) but my KY MVR, which I got yesterday is clean. Any thoughts?

I would suspect that you received your KY license before FL suspended your driving privileges. Since DLC and NRVC checks are reactive (not proactive) your FL suspension would not show up on your KY MVR.
It varies from state to state, but one of the questions on your CDL application will ask if your driving privileges (non CDL) have ever been suspended/revoked in another state.
So you have 2 choices. Lie on your application and risk losing your CDL when KY discovers it, along with possible criminal charges, or clear up that suspension in FL before you apply.
One other option- Move to one of the five non-member states. -
Thank you High Desert Dweller. Moving to Tennesee is a great option for me since I live just 20 miles from the border however even if I did that was able to obtain a CDL and subsequent employment I would either have to NOT drive in Florida or run the risk of being stopped and jailed. My case is kind of strange being that I had to pay Florida the fines that I owed in order to reinstate my license back in '04. In '06 I moved to KY and thought that I was clear of everything so I disposed of the reciept (along with a lot of other, I thought, unneccesary paperwork) now they are trying to say that they have no record of recieving payment and in the process of updating thier computers came across my case and I'm sure others. I quess really my only option at this point is to bite the bullet pay them another $1300 and because in Floriduhs infinite wisdom they have decided to keep DUI's on the record for 75 years I will be toteing around a new reciept for the rest of my life.
Disgruntled with the whole state of FLORIDUUUH!!!
Not really a question hear just a rant about Floriduh. Ok well maybe one question. I have done my time for my crime (DUI, probation, classes, counseling, all that) now because they are saying that I didn't pay my fine they have suspended my license. Ok I understand that but they are also sending it to a collection agency which I don't understand how they can do that also as that impacts me negatively and it seems that I'm being punished, at leats for non payment, twice let alone the fact that I was punished for the original crime back in the early 2000's.
