My CDL lapsed about 3 years ago. I used to have to take a stress test every year to keep my medical card because of my cardiac history. I was thinking about applying for a job driving a shuttle van picking people up from the airport and residences and transporting them to a golfing resort in my town. There is no class A requirement and I think the van probably holds 10-12 people max but the job does require a DOT physical. My question is… would I still be required to take a “stress test” as part of the DOT physical, being that it is a non class A job? Stress tests are quite expensive without insurance. Thanks for any help.

In the old days, any info on your CDL physical wasn't really avail or kept in any file. So, "fibbing" was easy to disguise an ailment from previous years. I'm retired from the biz, however, now we are in a high tech era. I'm not sure how secret your info is from previous physicals. Someone will know. But, I must ask, since you have previous cardiac history, don't you want to be "healthy" especially driving a van load of people ? I would be a little irritated if the driver keeled over at 60 mph !

never had to take stress test in all my yrs driving and yes, I was on BP meds, in my later yrs.

but, my bp isn't that bad for a fat old fart.

125/ 78 average, on the beginner meds, still. lol

Never heard of annual stress test. I’m required to have one every 2 years. Only allowed a 1 year card. Fmcsa criteria only mentions CMV Drivers. A DOT physical is a DOT physical. The criteria applies to the process. Examiners are bonded by the rules. Driver also. Once you answer the questions honestly, they’re going to require the stress test results. Pretty sure it’s only needed every 2 years.

Question is, what is your normal resting BP? If it is under control, don't mention your past.
