? about my Trainer

    Remember to go by the qualcomm time for your homebase when it comes to the 11/14, this is if using E-logs or paper log. Like everyone has said, you are the captain of your ship. Are you using paper logs, there is no way you can go over on E-logs without getting a violation if you go over your hours. Jot down in a notebook what time you start and figure 14 hrs out for the official stopping time, don't go over it. Don't drive over 11 hrs or you will be in violation. The break should be figured 4 1/2 - 5 hrs into the start of the run; if you take it too early, you may have to take a second one, esp if on E-logs; this gives you the time to stop at a rest area if you see one, or a truckstop.

    Use www.findfuelstops to see what is on the route where you are going, sometimes this makes it also easier to figure where to stop at for breaks or the evening.

    When you are on your own truck, it will be you who is in charge. I know now you are under his rule, but he still needs to be legal. Whether it would help for you to take a more assertive attitude or not maybe the question. If you just started with him, perhaps it would be better to request a new trainer, but this is according to the company you are at, some may not care what he does, others will swap you out if there is a conflict going on. Of course this puts you in the position of having to wait for another trainer.

    You might want to keep track in your notebook, also, what time you started driving, when time you stopped, like sitting at the shipper/receiver waiting, and this will help to keep track of how many hours you have in driving. This will give you a better idea as to when your time ends for that period, instead of having to guess and check.

    good pointers for sure. For one thing, if you're going to be a professional driver, never do illegal driving. You turned "vehicle off while tractor is going down the I-10?" I hope your company's safety dept notices. I would rather throw my stuff out of the window and get out of the truck than shut it off while rolling, I-10 or anywhere.

    One other thing, Neon. If you want to make any money doing this, you better plan on pushing on that 14hr clock right along.

    That trainer isn't your boss, remember that. If he tells yo u to do something illegal, just tell him no, because you are the i be actually doing it. There's no law that protects you because you have a trainer in the passenger seat, for anything. You can still be ticketed and punished for anything you could solo.

    Am I confused or did you turn off the truck while it was in motion?

    Doesn't that cut power steering, etc?

    Don't we have enough problems with unsafe and illegal driving already. Besides of going down the road with the key turned of, which is so outrageous to me my English is not good enough to comment;
    You started your 14-hr clock at 6:48 AM. So: your 14 hrs were up by 8:48 PM.

    You already have a logbook violation, your trainer doesn't care about DoT regulation, public safety, YOUR safety, and teaches his students to violate federal law. The guy would throw you under the bus and walk away.

    I would call safety and ask for help to get my logbook in order. I would honestly answer their questions how that happened, and demand a new trainer at once.

    We shouldn't tolerate this to begin with and those who seem to think that "ratting him out" is a bad thing, it doesn't matter what you think. I would be on the phone with the company as soon as the first thing happened, telling them to get me out of this guys truck. I am not going to end my career when it just got started for some lazy idiot.

    By the way, your English is good.

    If it is in gear and you turn the key to accessory it'll behave exactly like you just took your foot off the throttle. If it is out of gear you will lose power steering and won't build any air.

    So you left your other trainer about a month ago and now you are planning on ruffling the feathers with this trainer too? You do realize that you are the new guy and he is the experienced driver. Your word against his and chances are they will take his and fire you.

    You need to learn how to see the bigger picture in these situations. Just keep telling yourself it is only temporary in 6 months time you will be in a much better postion and he will be a long distant/forgotten memory.
