I'm looking at some opportunities with natural gas companies right in my backyard. My question:If I drive truck(semi) hauling equiptment to and from well sites,do otr companies consider that experience?May sound like a dumb ? but I see alot of qualifications that specifically say they require "6 months OVER THE ROAD experience" or whatever the time may be.
? about otr experience.......

they dont count local work unfortunately. screws over alot of guys that way but hey if you cand find the good local job and not have to go OTR then more power to ya

Thanks Ruger!Yeah if that job would come through and I liked it,I would stay there. But it never hurts to keep every option open!!

OTR is normally considered as driving at least 1000 miles per week pulling a trailer that is at least 40 feet in length, and consistently sleeping in your truck. This is a quote from the following companies: JB Hunt, Werner, Schneider, and Prime. Whatever....IMO, if you can drive in NYC, you can drive anywhere.....I'm just say'n....but companies are looking for those who are willing to commit...they don't want a local guy freak'n out about being away from home...

Good info flatbedder.I can understand companies making that distinction I guess. There is a big difference I'M sure.Driving big rigs locally would have to help some in a future job search would'nt you think?

OTR is just that, over the road. You must have covered most of the lower 48 states to be considered having otr exp.If a company wants so much otr exp,I think say you covered 20 of the 48 states,I think companies will be happy with that.

Some companies count local work as experience but not with the same weight. Say you drove local for three years they "may" count that as like 6 months experience.
