I got my CDL permit when i was 18.I drove a quad with my dad a 38year veteran of the road. The company he worked for got bought out by a larger one.(Different rules). So i can't drive. I want to so bad. Its in my blood.I am almost 20 be that age in june.NOW i can't find anyone to help me.I got an owner operator that said i can run through a pretrip on his truck. The Guy can't help me except that which i am very thankful for.But I can't find anyone to let me drive even though i got a month of experiance in a Qaud dump. I got to retake the test in July when my permit expires. What happen to the old ways where people lended a hand to people who wanted to work and have something?I don't see it anymore.I am about to give up.The closes school is $4000 8wks plus you got to pay for the test when your done.

Have you checked your states unemployment section on the net? It may list local companies that are hiring, as well trying a search for trucking companies like (every trucking job) in the search bar.

Under 21 you can drive in-state, not crossing state lines. Try to find local delivery.

All right man, but, you're 19... go work at the mall or go to community college or something. You'll have plenty of years to waste doing this.

I gotta agree. You have a whole lifetime to make this decision. Give it a few years, go be 19 and enjoy life. Or better yet see if one of the local welding\production shops is hiring. The work is hell but the pay is usually decent and the work ethic instilled is priceless if you pay attention.

Get your class A CDL book at your local DMV. Read it cover to cover at least once, then do some self-testing or have someone else like your Gramps quiz the mother lovin' $%^& out of you. There's more than one practice test site on the webz here. Then go take the test when you feel you can pass. You can even go to the library which has tons of books that have study guides and end of chapter tests to quiz yourself over and over again until it burns into your brain. They also have manuals on any truck you may want to drive. You can do this all the while until you hit 21 even while working another job to pay the bills and the industry might actually have picked up again by then.

This may seem a bit harsh t you, but he is right about having time to waste being young. Like Mighty Mouse said get some material and study your behind off. I understand you want to do this now, but hey you have your while life ahead of you. There are reasons that they do not want most guys under 21 driving a big truck. The down and dirty is you have really just started to drive a 4wheeler, you need the time to work out some safety issues within yourself with a smaller vehicle. It takes time and that is years in your book, but in the bigger picture you will b a better driver by the time you reach 21. Right now that's 17 months away. It's not that lng and if you can't wait that long then you need to find some other line of work, because you will become a danger out here on the road. I would just say you need to learn patience, That is a big factor in driving a rig, so you do not needlessly endanger yourself or others. I know this seems harsh but it is not meant to be, I just call them like I see them. You have a life time to be behind the wheel of a truck. Enjoy some good life while you can, and still have time to. Good Luck.

I got to agree with the old hands have said here. I know when I get done with college I'll be 20 so I would have another year to go but I plan on using that year using my accountant skills and save my money until I'm 21 and then when I do go trucking I got a nice chunk of change in the bank so this way I don't have to struggle to make ends meet. So when it comes time for me to get into business for myself I have the background in money management to run a profitable business!
