I have this to say about that.
Much of my success and happiness here has come from two or three different things.
I have been in the right places at the right times.
Smaller terminals seem to treat their drivers better than larger terminals, as do some DM's at any terminal.
I have always been at the smaller ones.
And respect goes both ways. If there is not respect from both sides, no one gets along.
(I also had a very good mentor way back then, who taught me many of these things.
He was 6 years in when he taught me, and as far as I know he is still with Swift.)
Learning the system that you work under is very helpful.
Swift gives us a lot of control over how we do things and run our loads - and if you know how things work enough to simply do it their way, your way... or, your way their way... all is golden.
The third point is to simply be on time and stay safe.
On time is always secondary to being safe. But all you need to do is send a mac-22.
No one has ever questioned my decision to shut down for any conditions that I felt were unsafe to drive in.
After all this time the only beef that Swift has with me is my idle times.
They have always been on the high side.
That is a moot point when everything else is good.Aamcotrans Thanks this.
