Ill graduate from a 300 hour school in a few weeks (hopefully, as long as I dont become a BONEHEAD)...Im 29, married and have a 2 year old daughter.

I want to make the most possible money, as well as get home as much as possible. ( I was gone plenty in the ARMY) So Im not stressing that to much, I just dont want to end up with a dead end company twiddling my thumbs....So any advice on which way I should go or who I should really look into would really be appreciated.

I heard from Schneider, US Express, Werner, PAM and USA...Crete and Star told me that my school wasnt recognized by them....thoughts?

If you can get hired by Crete, I wouldn't look back! That is definitely the standout. If not Crete look for some of the smaller companies, especially the ones you don't see advertising that much. That usually means the driver turnover rate isn't that high and their drivers are more happy. You live in Ga so that's one of the best places to be a trucker. Check out Kennesaw too. They are out of Ga. The run team west coast to east coast. Really good money and you might have some opportunity for home time. Since you stated you were in the army I'll save all the "your never going to see your family". Trucking is tough on families, but you have to do what you have to do to make sure they have a good life. Welcome to the forum and good luck to you!

I've said this so many times I should just have a preprinted statement. You've got to look different than all the rest of the drivers that are graduating from school too. Most will just apply on line and let a recruiter do the work. That's ok if you want any old job that benefits the recruiter or you're backed into a corner.

What I would do is download as many list of trucking companies in my area and then go see them. Talking face to face is much better than someone reading an application online. You can get these list by searching fleet directory, truck companies, the phone book, craigs list, or any listing that you may find in a truck stop. Just be careful when you search online and don't ask for trucking jobs. You want to avoid the companies that are seeking drivers due to their high turnover rate. You should make a list of what you expect from a company so you'll need to refine the lists after you research them. Seek the best first and work from there. If you exhaust all your leg work and have to resort to a recruiter at least you know you tried all avenues and didn't settle for the first job that came along. You'll know more about the companies and you should have a good idea on where you want to end up at. Good luck and we are here to help.
