I had a delivery Friday at Dollar General. I misread the ratecon and thought I had a 1pm appointment. I arrived at 1120am to find out it was an 11am appointment. Now XPO is telling me the next appointment they can get me is 2 weeks out. It's just me, the truck and trailer. I can't sit in this parking lot for two weeks. What would happen if I just hand unload this nonsense in the parking lot?
About to hand unload trailer in dollar general parking lot

Hound the broker with the intensity you are making new threads and I bet it gets unloaded. Go up and up the food chain to the bosses. Be a thorn in their side. You need to get to the account manager at the very least or the salesman who has the account. Right now he/she is having margaritas and snuggling with the significant other.

The funny thing is when you do these jobs the brokers I work with make sure you know. DO NOT MISS YOUR APPOINTMENT! It is a nightmare to get you rescheduled to get unloaded if you miss that appointment. Most of the time it is right at a week at min to reschedule. I have a feeling you will get a big push around on this. Do you have at least a screen shot of your phone showing you on property 20 minutes late? I would had thought they would have at least worked you in for only 20 minutes.

Hell, I know that it may be an irresponsible idea but dumping that freight on their parking lot would show someone there that their ridiculous reschedule is met by a ridiculous counteract.
On my last day, before I retire, I'll sure do that too, if they reschedule me like that. I would not wait 2 more weeks, if I were to retire in one day.
Oh boy...I fantasize of doing so many things on my last day before I retire.Keepforgettingmypassword, Siinman, Midwest Trucker and 5 others Thank this. -
I personally wouldn't just go willy nilly unloading the trailer like that. At least make sure the store manager will let you put it inside by their back door.

I cant give you any good, direct advice because I have never, and would never take a dollar store account. However, my ex was a manager at a Dollar General store one time & I know...
So, back in the 80's, DG only had a manager and one worker in the store. On the day that they were scheduled to get a load delivered, they would hire a lumper to come in for 1 or 2 hrs for minimum wage (cash of course) & help unload the truck. After the truck was unloaded, the pay stopped.. the lumper was dismissed. If the truck didn't show at his appointment time, the lumper was sent on his way immediately. They wouldn't pay him to sit around & wait.
Now, I'll say, this lumper was usually a homeless person or just whomever they could stop on the sidewalk in front of the store & convince them to come inside for 1 - 2 hrs work. They didn't always have the same guy every week. They weren't always the most reliable people for just 2 hours of hurry, hurry work for $4 - $6.
Sometimes it can take a day or 2 to find someone to come in & help.
This is why truck drivers have to help manually unload this stuff by hand on a portable conveyor type thingy. Cause DG is too cheap to have a good plan.
This is why you're in the situation you're in more than likely. When you weren't there at 11:00..... they sent the lumper on his way at 11:01... with no pay of course. -
I’m assuming that it’s at a DG distribution center. I’ve had that kind of thing happen to me before, it tends to go one of two ways, either they have me wait around and try to work me in, or I get sent to a nearby local freight depot (someone like ABL or Southeastern) where they unload my trailer and store the load until it can be rescheduled, and then one of their trucks takes it back.
I’m a company driver, so I don’t deal with the money side, but I assume that’s a whole lot of money out of someone’s pocket.
I would probably go back in to their receiving office and ask really nicely if there’s any way at all that they could work you in, even if that means waiting a day or two. -
I can’t wrap my head around this, how is this remotely acceptable. You agree to transport their products for said rate. If they are unable to unload you within a couple hours then hourly pay should kick in.
Late/missed appointment is no excuse to use your trailer as storage for 2 weeks. #### happens all the time, traffic, breakdowns, wrecks, life, etc.
It’s not your problem they can’t unload the trailer due to whatever reason, ie: labor, not enough space, etc.
I would unload it right there on the ground, and charge them for the unload.
I always have another load scheduled after the one I’m dropping and I’m not missing my next job because of stupidity.
With that said I do not nor have I ever pulled any type of dock freight so I’ve never had to deal with this type of trucking. I’ve always pulled equipment that I load/unload by myself or open deck crane off.W923 Thanks this.
