Not really... it just means that, instead of placing a drain evenly across four batteries, it does it to two, and wears them out faster, makes it easier for drivers to end up in situations where they end up deep cycling batteries, etc.

Most trucks worldwide run on 2 batteries , American trucks mainly on 4.
The number of batteries does not really matter it is the amp hours and cold cranking amps.

Actually it was designed for a certain amount of amps, it really doesn't matter how many batteries it has as long as the amps are correct.

and for normal purposes that would take 4 series 31 batteries. I guess being designed for 4 batterie is some sort of gimmick by all truck manufacturers??

I suppose in that instance one large rectangular battery like in a lot of farm tractors would do the trick then.

bit I would think since 4 batteries is the prevalent design , 4 batteries would be the choice.

and your statement also reminds me of the old sayings, "if a bullfrog had wings he wouldn't bump his rear when he landed."

some of you folks defy logic in trying to come up with a good answer

Battery box's are a standard item , often times the same box design is used on multiple applications. So fact that it has the space for four doesn't mean it's application requires four, yes the lazy and quick solution is to fit in as many as possible. The the correct way though is to find out what your application actually requires.

Well yeah the more batteries the more to replace. Batteries only prolong power when the engine is not in use. So if you want electricity to last longer without the engine running is the only reason to add more batteries. I actually added two of my own batteries and a solar panel at one point but heck I never sit now I am always on the go lol.
