I have a 2014 International Prostar. Its a company truck, not mine. About 3 or 4 months ago the ABS module went out, had to sit for a day and a half then they told me it would be two weeks to get the part. So they sent me from TN to OH to get another truck (none in TN). I was driving it back to TN with a load and the driveshaft dropped out from under it. Had to sit all weekend in a motel. Ended up being brought back to TN and luckily truck was ready it had been probably a little over a week by that point. Anyway the ABS module is going out again or is out. Its not causing any problems. Just got the ABS, traction control light and some little triangle light on plus it says ABS module in the message center. This is the same thing it did before. Im just wondering if its something I can just ignore or do I definitely need to get it fixed? Last time after they found it was "fried" they wouldnt let me drive it.
ABS Module?

usually it is just that the ABS function is not working, but you still have your brakes. you would want to make sure you do not jam on the brakes in any sort of panic stop. other than that, do as they say for you to do.
if you were to say, be in an accident, the recorder will know you had no ABS, this can be a detriment to you later on. -
I think from a CMV cop's POV, their guidance regarding ABS issues dictates "vehicle should be serviced at the next convenient and practical opportunity but not put off too long". I had read this somewhere on the ABS manufacturer's web site, and I'm paraphrasing. I have been unable to find anything related to ABS issues in the FMCSA book but might be corrected by someone who has more time then I do.
But the point is, an ABS light (trailer or tractor) should not be an issue that get's you put OOS or ticketed as long as they are made to understand it just recently occurred and it is "headed to the shop currently" -
The company I work for has about 15 Prostars. What you are saying is so common our drivers don't even report it anymore. We have 2 trucks that this happens to at least once a day. Shut it off start it back up and good to go usually. Otherwise it just gets cleared from the computer. ABS and TPM are both extremely common in our trucks anyway.

Correct.
A malfunctioning anti lock system is not an OOS condition. The system only has to be present and warning lamps functional.
A malfunctioning tractor anti lock system will sometimes cause your traction control/stability control to go offline as they use the anti lock wheel sensors to detect wheel spin. -
I read somewhere that when surveyed 1 in 6 trucks on the road had ABS problems. So, they are pretty common.
I understand it is not a out-of-service condition for the Feds, but as alway state and local DOT many see things different and often do. It is however a ticket and points on your record. -
I drove several prostars at some point all of them had ABS issues. A lot of equipped trailers did too.

I would ask them to show me where it is a citable offense.
