I can see you all having that defrost problem on the east coast. With all the humidity you all got.

Not a problem on the west coast. For the most part.

I can also see how some trucks don't get fixed. My w900 i'm in now. Is up to $3,000 so far and still counting. I should be thankful the company has been willing to spend that kind of money.

That's how it works in the west. But the air is dry out here.

Has anyone mentioned that the AC system dries out the air? Which is why vehicles with AC run the AC system when defrost is selected? Because it's easier for dry air to defrost a windshield than moist air, regardless of temperature? I haven't seen it.

The issue with safety is what I'm dealing with right now. My AC system is low on pressure so when at idle the AC could shut off, causing loads of warm, moist air to be forced into the cabin by the blower. When this happens, my windshield fogs up almost instantly and will stay that way until the compressor kicks back in again.

Now, if this were to happen while I'm driving, it's an issue. Since it only happens at idle, I just can't see when the light turns green. If there was a way to de-select AC when on defrost, this would be a non-issue as I would crack the windows and problems solved. But by design the AC runs on defrost regardless of the position of the AC button.

Only reason I mention this is because it's only an issue when it rains here and the humidity goes through the roof. Which has been every day for over a month here.

Nope, you just have to have a working defroster. Hell, when I first started driving, most rigs didn't even have power steering, just a large steering wheel and a fan or two on the dash or overhead..

Yeah, I know it sucks not having A/C, and I DO think it promotes driver safety, but its not the law.

R134a Freon is not particularly toxic, but it can displace oxygen, which _is_ bad thing.

Not when it come to the A/C, no it does not. I am trained in automotive air conditioning systems, so I am very knowledgeable about this. I think it should be a law, but for now it is not covered by DOT.

You can just bet when officer bippies A/C doesn't work in his patrol car it gets fixed real fast, however.

It may not be a leagal rule, but it is a personal rule. I been at this to #### long to suck it up! A day or 2 fine... but 87 degrees out, humidity around 75... yeah...... nope.

Unfortunately when you get an annual inspection, most mechanics don't realize this. Likewise, many DOT LEOs don't, and may give a ticket and or violation. Then it is up to you to file a dataQ challenge. Good luck with that!

A ticket for an inoperative auxiliary light NOT required by the regulations is the easiest ticket to beat and makes the officer look like an incompetent a-hole in front of the judge and his superiors.
