I hardly ever use A/C. I was actually considering not putting it back on my W900 (but the truck looks cooler with the roof A/C so its getting put back on).

In today's trucks, the defroster works via the a/c system so yes, the a/c must work. Also, you've heard the ultimate D.O.T. goto rule, if it's on the truck, it MUST work.

The defroster has absolutely NOTHING to do with the a/c. Unplug your compressor. The defroster will still work.

The compressor is wired in to the defroster so that it's get used to keep itself lubricated during the winter months when it's not needed. It DON'T stop the defroster from going in to defrost mode when the knob is selected to defrost.

BTW. i don't think any of us have had our a/c included as part of a level inspection. I've certainly never been asked to turn my fan on.

Snowwy, a blower is not a defroster as in the old days.

A/C is not safety related. Period. It does NOT have to work.

Hmmm... I don't know but I do know I don't want to chance having a heat stroke or dealing with heat exhaustion
    ... How about you ?

yes it will blow, but you dont know how the defroster acrually works do you? its actually the the defogging the windsheild that wont work correctly, its when the windows fog that you have a problem with the ac not working. you ever had the windows fogging and turned the heat to hot and cutting on the defroster? then cut it back to cool and watch the windows magically defog? there is a scientific reason for this , scientific but not complicated, same reason a glass of ice tea condenses moisture on the outside of the glass.

That's not pertinent to the topic. A/C is not a required vehicle safety feature, its a comfort feature.
