The filter drier is cheap enough... definitely replace it before you evacuate the system. The desiccant will be saturated from running the system with air in it.

Actually, when I open a system, two things ALWAYS get replaced: The filter drier and the expansion valve. They are cheap insurance for a long-lived, good performing system.

Sounds good. Gonna stop by a freightliner today or tomorrow and grab those 2 bits. Is expansion valve easy to get to and replace? I know the dryer is super easy.

You've got a Cascadia? I'm not too familiar with those. My old Columbia was kind of a pain to do the expansion valve. I ended up having to pull the evaporator and very carefully cut the old expansion valve off. They use two tiny allen screws to hold it on the evaporator and they instantly stripped out.

You may not want to do yours while you're on the road.

    The drier definitely though.

Pressures are the same, Charts are online. I’ve only changed my expansion valves, cab and bunk once a few yrs ago. PITA. Bunk lines were frozen, rusted . Had to get new ends. Had new lines made @ shop in La. They welded a nut to the ends of my fittings, made new hoses. Now anyone can make me a standard hose up, if needed. Dealer wanted $1200 for bunk lines. Not worth changing expansion valve on bunk if you ruin line trying to remove it. A tiny bit of moisture will freeze up in valve and a/c stops blowing cold. Turn off, it melts, turn on it works, sometimes moisture gets worked through. I changed mine and keep an extra on Truck. Only cause I bought an extra one by mistake. Lol. Old ones still looked clean, Not worth changing unless sticking. A little noise from them is normal.I changed mine while I had the whole bunk heater out. Same with cab.I doubt you got any trash in the valve, in the short time system was open. A good vacuum and recharge. A bad compressor will put trash into system. If not flushed will ruin new one and plug the condensor, which is impossible to flush, due to parallel design, maybe plug an expansion valve.

I don't worry much on pressures. Just pull vacuum and put the amount in that is on the truck ac decal.
