i don't see any merit in your argument.

first of all skyscrapers being built to the extreme, no ladder can reach the higher floors.

    firefighters and police have radios.

yes, it IS 2018, but i do not have a smart phone.

    why should i have one?

why should my company give me a tablet?

you can take all this techno crap and throw it in the ocean.

(do YOU depend 100% on a GPS as well??)

if YOU DO, then you're up ships creek.

you say if "your company" gave you a tablet, you would take it.

why don't you spend YOUR money now, and get one?

it boils down to the DOT green book, as quoted in a post way above, about KNOWING how to communicate in ENGLISH....and i sincerely hope they DO NOT REMOVE that regulation.

i think this argument or shall i say NON argument from you has come to an end.

the DOT green book is all fine and dandy, but if you're lost, it won't help you find your way. a paper atlas or a gps however, can and will.

i have mixed feelings on the english language requirement, but clearly you have more faith in the government regulations than i do.

my point about the firefighters was: back in 2001 they HAD tossed all those radios in the ocean, as you speak. they did NOT maintain the equipment because they figured it wasn't important, they had ladders for everything. they ignored available technology, and didn't have it when it suited them.

why don't i spend my own money and buy my own truck?

a tablet is useful. it supplements and replaces many things.

also: elogs require some sort of device... tablets are mass produced and extremely cost effective.
