the real story behind the govt thinking is there is to many cdl holders and they have lost track of what they do with there cdl.
thats why i think they have decide to make all opt out of what they do with there cdl.
any insight to this would be helpful?![]()

I have no idea what the heck you are trying to say, but talking about accountability. The few bad apples in the business give everyone a black eye. You have a select few that are the bad apples. For the drivers and carriers that always play within the rules, it's no big deal. For the carrier or driver that want to see what they can get away with and how long they can get away with it, it can be a painful pill to swallow. I don't have an opinion what the rules are, my job is to enforce whatever rule or regulation is in place to keep it a level playing field for all involved. When you think about it in that sense, I'm a small part of the regulatory end of the business.
When you have a bad apple that undercuts the rates, runs 20 hours straight to get it there, doesn't register his truck correctly, doesn't pay for IFTA, runs no log book, could care less about maintaining his truck it's not fair to the carriers and drivers that do all of those things. Yeah, you have one guy making a living, but cutting all kinds of corners and putting legitmate carriers at a disadvantage. Then you have one of these bad actors involved in a wreck, like one I had that killed 2 people. The truck driver was at fault. The driver, who also owned the truck had no operating authority. No insurance, unregistered truck, and no fuel tax. The truck and trailer had out of service defects when I inspected it. The driver has yet to be seen in the last 3 years. Yeah, he has been charged, but no one has seen him. So the family of the two people killed, sued the fella, but no one knows where he is. So I ask you if someone in your family was killed or seriously injured by a driver like this, wouldn't you want justice to be served as well?
It only takes a few collisions involving carriers like I just described to get rules changed. The bad thing is everyone pays for a few bad actors.formertaxidriver, Bill104, papa1953 and 7 others Thank this. -
If that wasn't the Post Of The Day...It should be!!!!

My brother is a traffic cop (solo bike) and is getting DOT certified as we speak. He has a good understanding of trucking as I have described it to him (he has mercy of CDL holders in their 4 wheelers when they are out of pocket, may give them a harsh lecture and cut them loose because I told him what traffic convictions can mean to their livelihood).
However, I pressed the issue of bad equipment and drivers, when behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle as bad actors need to be held accountable. He has made some stops and called DOT cert backup to help put a stop to these shenanigans. If one of these creeps ever lost control by their ineptitude or equipment failure, that ultimately harmed my brother on his job, I wouldn't sleep til he was in prison for vehicular assault or vehicular homicide. (heaven forbid!) -
I'm wondering if the original poster is talking about the new/upcoming linking of medical certification with renewing or getting a CDL. I have known far too many guys over the years that still had their CDL's long after no longer being medically certifiable, and that was not right.heyns57 Thanks this. -
I put one out of service this week. Gut was every bit of 400 + lbs, tells me he can't get a medical. His original one expired over 2 years ago. Owner/Op. local driver. Said that he is insulin dependant and has high blood pressure. At least he didn't frge one or make one up. In the last few months I know I have seized 4 or 5 fradulent medical cards. In that regard I do like the new rule, so when a driver decides to alter the dates, it won't be a bunch of BS spewing from his mouth trying to spoon feed me some BS story. One from lastweek had a "8 year medical" He tells me his doctor was only one he knew that gave 8 year medicals because he gave such an in depth exam.

Typhoid36 Thanks this. -
WOW! What's that doc's name? I want an 8 year medical lol.

Doctor was a "proctologist" maybe>dieselbear Thanks this.
