I am currently signed up with ATBS, but I'm wondering if I would be money ahead to get something like Quickbooks and handle things myself. I just went o/o, but the more I talk to them and look at my settlements the fewer surpises I'm finding. I don't spend much on the road, I have a pretty good idea of the loads I need to be profitable.

What I am looking for is what others are doing and why.

    Speaking as an accountant.

I have always felt it best that the work be performed at the owner level.

I would have no objection to the use of quickbooks. I have several clients that use it.

My suggestion is to not make the categories too detailed. But do not hesitate to make it useful to items you wish to track.

Then I would suggest an accountant to review the work each month at first in order to make sure you are on the right track. Then each quarter have the financials looked at from the tax standpoint for estimates.
