How do you know when your authority is active by the fmcsa website, currently my dot # is active( I've had it for years) but it says no current for hire authority, l'm waiting for my mc# to go active so I can buy a new truck under my #s instead of the company I was leased to

You will recieve a letter in the mail from FMCSA that will show you have been granted your operating authority. It takes an average of 28 days from date of application, never any earlier than 21 days since that is the waiting period for protest from other motor carriers.

Your insurance needs to be filed before they will grant authority to operate, wait until about the 20th day to pay and have your insurance agent file, no need to file early.

You can also enter your Docket No. (this will become your MC number) on the FMCSA L&I website and click HTML then at the bottom of the page click pending and it will show the progress on your authority application.

Call your DMV and ask if they have received your authority
