That would be your gross pay. If you're a company driver, you'd still have all of your standard payroll deductions.
-
Thanks Raider for the reply,
That I understand, it's just the stories I have heard from others, not all but they have said they received their checks and it had all kinds of deductions for miscellaneous stuff and winded up with 2/3 less then they expected. I just want to be paid for what I actually should be paid for.
And how does the so called COMDATA Card work? they are telling me I will have 100.00 on it before I leave on my first dispatch. What is the card used for? -
I guess I don't have that type of experience. I know what my gross is going to be from week to week.
Unless you are doing cash advances I don't know what you'd be getting extra deductions for. I'm also not familiar with the Comdata card. I assume it's like the TCheck card? If so, that 100.00 would be for cash advance??? At least that is how it is with who I drive for. You can get up to 100 bucks twice a week. I personally don't do the cash advance thing but know lot of guys who do it. -
Your comdata is like a company credit card that you can use at any truckstops. You also will be issued a checkbook. You use this card to get advances (which I highly do not recommend!) you can have your pay put on there, you can use it to pay for lumpers and stuff, when you are broke down and get your truck fixed you send the total amount to the company and they immediately put it on that card so you can pay the people. If your company gives you $100 like what you said above, make sure you always take it all out at once because they charge a high fee to take money out and will charge you everytime you take out like $20 bucks. If it's two dollars then you are going to spend $10 if you take that money out 20 bucks at a time. I really tried not to use it all. My suggestion would be to get an account at the TAB BANK at the Pilot/flying J. You can have a portion of your paycheck automatically put in there and the debit card is free for taking out money and such. Also a lot of banks shut off your debit card when you are travelling around state to state and making numerous purchases. It's an automatic red flag thinking someone has stolen your card. It used to happen to us a lot! Running team we covered a lot of ground in a day. It was always a pain in the butt to get it turned back on. The TAB BANK is for truckers and they know about the logistics of trucking.
As for your pay by the mile, you also get paid for multiple stops, unloading or loading, safety bonus pay, idle bonus pay, lay over pay, long time waiting at shipper/receiver pay, you get the point. There are a lot of other things you will get paid for. You need to keep very good track of what you should be paid though and check it every week on your qualcomm statement. They will or should explain all this to you at whatever company orientation you attend. The TAB BANK you can look into on the pilot/flyinJ website. Also good time to apply for your bonus cards now! (fuel bonus cards for stuff like free showers etc...) This way you will have them by the time you get rolling.
Raiderfanatic and Everett Thank this. -

NOW, Thats what I call specific information.
Thanks Dude!! That's a great help.
Now I just have to wait till I can get by the house once I get dispatched to pick up my antenna and linear, some tools etc...... As I am about to hop on a greyhound from Jacksonville to Lakeland Fla my suitcast is packed with 7-10 days worth of clothes and stuff to get me going including my General Lee radio. I hope their is an antenna with coax on the tractor I will be issued. Hate running without the radio. That is a must have priority. GPS and laptop packed and hope I don't exceed the 50lb limit or they charge xtra. Will bring my briefcase on the bus with me so I should be good to go. By the way my CB Code name is TAMPA NUGGET so I will shout at ya'll when I get going in a few days.
Thanks again gang. -
The message is to beware... you didn't provide any specific information either, so its hard to go further than than. Which carrier are you hooking up with?

Com-Data is used by most companies. Think of it as your personal account while working there. You can only buy fuel for the most part. They will put any cash advance on the card for you to draw on as you need it, but there is a service charge ( maybe 1-$2 each time). Most companies will also pay you each week thru the Com-Data card. BEWARE, CAUTION.... Do not leave any balance in your account on the Com-Data Card. Because, the company can reverse it at any time and take back what they put in, so transfer your pay into your personal bank account pronto. And save your receipts and make copies, they will not re-imburse you without a receipt. Always try to make the company pay for repairs directly. YOU stay out of the loop the best you can. Keep a little diary of every trip and expenses etc. Make sure you get every penny coming to you.
