Yep, and had a neighbor where I used to live light a charcoal fire in a big pan. Let the flames die down and slide it under the oil pan of the truck and wrap a plastic tarp around the front and sides.
If I was home he would come and have coffee with me for about an hour and go out and fire that ol transtar up

I don't know, haven't been out there in a while. Right, today's truck drivers probably never heard of a pyrometer, do not know about lugging your engine is & pulling liners or pulling a head bolts.
I remember one truck I was driving and I got a newer one. I was up at 7 Standard Road at Bakersfield and the driver who got my truck pulled in and asked me what was wrong with it. He had pulled a head bolt coming out, got it replaced at Triple D at Colton, took off up I-15 and pulled another one.
I told him that's a good running Cummings engine, never step down on the accelerator until its good and warm them that want happen. When he leaves out he cranks it up and takes off sounding as if he has the accelerator pedal on the metal. Some refuse to listen and learn."semi" retired Thanks this. -
It's not a myth. Add No.1 fuel to No. 2 fuel to prevent gelling. 50/50 mix got me through -28 degree weather already. That was after I gelled with straight No.2 and Howe's anti gel. Thanks Howe's. 4 gallons of Power Service and a new filter didn't get things moving either. It took some No.1 fuel to get rolling. Never wasted a dollar on bottled fuel additives again.

A old hog pan with charcoal and tarp it....it's not not rocket science fellas....it's been done for years.
I use the torpedo but the charcoal is alot cheaper.bstadele Thanks this. -
This new fuel waxes at low Temps.....just how it works...you just have to adapt....

Most guys that experience "gel-up" will only do it once, LOL.....Pulled a load of produce one time from FL to Montreal, fueled up in GA, .80 gallon back then....Not thinking at all, kept going North, hit the 15 in Quebec after sitting for about an hour at the border.....Started seeing the Tach running wild, no power, uh-oh, -15 out, big problems.... As I rolled up on the scale, I knew if I stopped she was gonna die....So I kept going, all the while the little Frenchman inside was jumping up and down, yelling in French I'm sure.....I pulled around back, just as he came boiling out of the scalehouse hollering at me in French....I did my best to explain the problem to him...He was a pretty descent old guy after all, let me come in and warm up when I needed to....Anyway, I asked him where I could some anti-gel, and he pointed to a place off in the distance....I hoofed it over and bought what I could carry back....You don't wanna know what they charged me for it....Anyway, long story short, I took the spare filters I always carried, filled them up with the A.G. and put them on....It took a while but it worked its way into the injector pump, and I was on my way....#### near froze that night, and talk about stink!....Yes sir, that was no fun at all, and I never let that happen again....Things are different now, but we used to add Kerosene to the tanks if we fueled down South, never gasoline.....Up North, most, if not all, always had a "winter blend" fuel in the cold months.....

I'm happy i got this hot arse cummins. Spent a good portion of last winter in New Brunswick dumping chicken byproduct and never thought once about my fuel gelling.. Had more issues with my hydraulic fluid freezing and not wanting to flow through the PTO.

I don't have my '82 Mercedes Benz car anymore ... But the manual use to recommend adding gasoline to the diesel fuel in the cold ...
Not sure I'd do it it with the newer engines ... I was glad when I woke up this morning and it was -2 that I added some Howes last night ...
