    What are requirements for adding a P endorsement to an existing CDL A in New York State. Is there a need for both written and skills test. Thank you for any input regarding this issue. Funds are a little tight as of now...wondering what kind of cost might be down the road for this addition.

    I assume it is the same as Maryland...

    You will have to take written and skills tests.

    You will not have to take written tests for general knowledge or air brakes, but you will still have to do all your air brake stuff when you demonstrate your pretrip.

    Just be sure to watch everthing the DMV does with your testing and license. Very confusing to them to have someone test for a class B vehicle when they already have an A. When I tested for my P and S endorsements it took several conversations with supervisors before they could figure out exactly what to do.
