Adding another air tank to add volume to run a drop axle and also to run an air whistle off of a yarder. I'm overthinking plumbing this bugger in.
1. Will a simple check valve work? or
2. Do I need a deal (insert part name here) that only lets my added on tank (would be tank no. 4) fill up after the tank it feeds from is filled up to operating pressure, then something that will keep it from filling up my last tank until the 'feed' stock air tank is up to normal pressure?
I just don't wanna run into a situation where running my drop axle or hitting the horn could some how lead me to having fun 'lack of air issues'.
Adding another Air Tank

As long as you put a one way check valve on your tank supply than if somthing happens to any air component or that tank it can't back feed I always use 90 psi check valve. But you don't have to do this of course it's just a. Fail safe it will work without

Plum a 90 or 100 psi relief valve on the supply tank that feeds the secondary tank. This will ensure the primary tank always stays filled and only fills the secondary when psi is above 90psi. Pressure relief valves generally dont work in reverse so this works as a check valve to. Be sure to keep the existing pressure relife valve on main tank and add one to the extra tank.
If you just add a check valve, then fill time from empty will be much longer on your main tank. with a pressure relfe valve, your primary always fills first.ramirezbrandonc and silver dollar Thank this. -
Seen a guy use a 1/4 beer keg for horn supply.

I used an 1/8 in line to fill my spare tank so it can't run my main system out. Works great for my Nathan train horns. Can blow them all day and never loose pressure

a pressure protection valve would be a good idea to plumb in. like a bendix PR-4 that way if something ever happended to the components that tank feeds it wouldnt drain the tank that will be supplying it also. 286500N is a bendix number for one that is set to 85 psi so if that tank had an issue it would cut it from draining at 85psi where a one way check valve would just protect the extra tank incase something happended to its supply tank.
Derailed, silver dollar and blanco Thank this.
