Hello I need to add front brakes in order to pass CVIP, has anyone added front brakes to a truck that did not come with them from the factory? The truck is quite old but it looks good and it quite nice to drive, so it would be nice to keep it on the road.

If it didn't have them from factory, it doesn't need them to pass.
BoxCarKidd, G13Tomcat and Kenworth 4life Thank this. -
This is true, if it didn't come with it they can't make you add it
-
Really? Do you have a link because It just failed CVIP because of it... new law in 2017
-
You say CVIP so I'm gonna guess Alberta?
-
Yes sorry, truck in currently in Brooks Alberta Canada, it was last registered in 2015
-
Its a straight truck as well
-
This is from the Alberta transportation website
A three-axle truck-tractor manufactured without front brakes, which has been converted into a straight truck for example a gravel truck, is required to have brakes installed on its front wheels by January 1, 2012. -
CVIP inspection manual is available here in PDF. See page 30.

Is it still a tandem or is it a single drive axle? I have an '80 W900 and because I singled it out I have to install front brakes, even though it never had them when built. -
Ah ok. I see now. I was thinking tractor trailer. My '80 was out of service before then and it was a straight water truck.
The way I'm going about doing mine is I'm going to swap out the whole front axle with one that has brakes.BoxCarKidd, Oxbow and rabbiporkchop Thank this.
