Not a “new” driver but wasn’t sure where else to post. I want ti get hazmat added to my license. What are the steps? Do I have to pass the test before being fingerprinted and all or do I have to get fingerprinted before the test? Basically asking the steps on how to get it!

Also, I’m in MO now if that matters
    thanks

TSA should have an office in your state’s DMV. They both get done in the same visit. At least that’s how it works here.

You’ll need an appointment at least for the fingerprints.

I think now to get the Hazmat endorsement, you have to take an ELDT course. You can do a search for the online courses and from what I understand, they aren't too expensive. Then contact your DMV for the details on the tests and the TSA fingerprinting/ background check. You can make TSA appointment here:

It varies by state. Just Google Missouri CDL HazMat process.

In my state you take the test at DMV, then go to fingerprint place, then wait on letter from TSA for 2 weeks to X months saying you passed, then take the letter to DMV, take picture, either get new CDL on spot or a paper CDL with the HM endorsement & wait for the plastic CDL in mail.

Get tanker endorsement if you don't have it. It's just a computer test. The practice tests at TruckerCountry.com are free. Test is easy.

Just for the record, they ask questions that are not in the book,,,not really, but I failed my Haz-Mat everytime I took it, and finally, just refused to haul anything Haz-Mat. Years ago, if something was considered Hazardous, we threw the placards in the sleeper, and took our chances. Oh relax, it wasn't the crime it is today, besides it wasn't radioactive, probably paint or Sterno fuel. Our logic was of all the trailers out there, the one with the Haz-Mat placards stuck out like a sore thumb. Never got caught, but I don't recommend that today.

Some of the driver, not company, fines for HazMat violations can be $10,000. Company may also pay a huge fine, in addition to the driver.

The test will ask questions that a company driver wouldn’t typically know the answers to nor have any need to, like how long spill records are required to be maintained by the company.

I had to guess at that one. The answer was 30 days.

I’ve heard UPS did that for decades. Never saw placards on buster brown pups. Ever wonder why, if a set of buster brown pups rolled, the only people ever allowed to hand unload those trailers were brown employees? So I’ve been told.
