Basicly gives you 2 hours of extended driving in unforseen weather. I have never used it tho.
-
This can be a very GREY area, and caution should be used if you attempt using it.
I've never used it either............ -
Note that it can only extend your Driving time (line 3) to 13 hrs. I am fairly certain that it cannot and does not extend Work time beyond the 14 hr limit. A PM to DieselBear might be a good idea on this question.
Also never used it, seemed like it wasn't worth the hassles. -

I dont know......if you follow the letter of the law and you are not your own dispatcher, you "might" be able to get away with it:
Adverse driving conditions means snow, sleet, fog, other adverse weather conditions, a highway covered with snow or ice, or unusual road and traffic conditions, none of which were apparent on the basis of information known to the person dispatching the run at the time it was begun. -
.
We had a DOT officer come in to a safety meeting and HE couldn't tell us exactly how it worked. As he put it it's for national emergency situations and not because you were turning off the news channel to lighten to the CD player or that rap crapola!
His out look is the same as mine. The radio AM/FM like a CB are tools that should be used! Not paying attention to "local and broadcast news" is actually pretty stupid when it means money in or out of our wallet or sitting somewhere that isn't where you want to be no matter how much you don't like the news! -
I am of the same opinion. Do not use it. It is way too gray and open to all kinds of interpretations. You do not need a logging violation for going over your 11 or 14. It just isn't worth it.

I have used it several times on the years, yes it's a grey area, but unless your working for a problem company, it's highly unlikely it will ever be questioned.
