Hey guys and gals, iv been a member of this forum for a whole minute and a half now, but I have been watching the posts and responses on here for awile now. I obviously no by now companys like CR England are a big no no unless no other option, but I havent heard alot about PAM... or at least seen alot about them and would like all the info I can get. So heres my situation. Iv been in college for the last three years, HATE it and taking a semester off to see if I can find anything better. Im also in the National guard. Iv driven alot of long quick trips (2000 miles+) and really enjoyed it. I would really like to get into OTR trucking but am having problems with were the best place to start will be, and seperating the BS recruiting propaganda from what these programs actually offer. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, with both the types of companies iv mentioned, as well as info from fellow guardsmen truckers.

    Thanks so much
    Mike

FWIW, I haven't had any college whatsoever, and I have no idea what your college major is, but if I were in school on a 4 year degree and had 3 years in the bag....I would stick it out, get my degree and then make the decision. Having a degree in anything prior to joining the job market is a plus.

Very much agreed with the above statement. I know you saying school is not working out for you, but your are a lot further then I am. You have done three years, stick out those last semesters and get that degree and then drive. I was in and out of school for the last 5 years and i am about 14 credits shy of an AA degree, but the why life pans out haven't invested in my education like I should have.
Now as far as PAM I should be starting with them pretty soon on the road training hopefully in a couple of days.

I agree with both of you guys 100%... And I would be in school if I werent on academic suspension. The school I was attending was a military academy, were I got into a little trouble for fighting (No Legal trouble), just school trouble. So in the mean time I have a year before I can go back to just about any school. Spring 2013, I will be able to go back to school, but fall 2013 im scheduled for deployment. So really Im not going to go back to school until 2015. In the mean time I need a skill... what do you guys thing?

Many counties have programs with funds available for school. Many times it is administered by the unemployment office. Search all avenues to pay for schooling yourself. Being indebted to a company for your schooling is not the best idea. Many on here have been through that, including myself. IMO the majority would say don't do the company sponsored.

I appreciate the advice, my only worry with this is coming out of school, and not being able to find a job with no experience... especially with the economy as far in the tank as it is. What advice would you have to give me, for finding a decent company after I get my cdl without a sponsered company.

There are companies who take grads. Usually a step above the indentured servant jobs. Do a search ay top of page search box. Others on here would be more knowledgable on this......oh also DON'T lease

Ok so im about to take this thread in a different direction... Im thinking about taking the advice of another member on here, and getting my CDL on my own. I did a search of companies that take recent grads, and one struck my eye. Watkins and Shepard, they say there military friendly which is very important to me. I dont know if there legit or not though. Any info on this company any of you have would be helpful. They have a terminal in Dalton Ga, even though I live in S GA its still pretty convenient considering all the friends I have in the northern part of this state. Any comments on this company you have Neg, or Pos would be appreciated
