Kevin's info is good. Our family business was using some of the tricks 30 years ago. Well 1986 , not quite 30 just yet. Gear fast run slow. Direct drive , we ran direct 7 speeds with no back box to eat mileage . Single drive with a tag axle. All position tires all around( and there is a trick to improve RR numbers) long before the manufacturers focused on it. Side effect they wore like iron! Could never get 500k out of drives but darn close. Tag would easily go well past that mark. Trailer gap. Think back to a 86 freightliner. Areo as a brick, but made the best we could out of it. Back then the standard gear lube was 90/140, we got eaton to green light us using 50 weight motor oil in the trans, to reduce drag. l10 before computer controls we were getting 10 mpg running 48 dry vans(light thou) . Fuel savings at .80 a gal fuel made the payments. Like now Pittsburgh Power talks about free trucks, we made the math work for a fleet to pay for themselves, using just fuel savings! Built tough and simple, ran day cabs 1000 miles a day slip seating. 500 miles down hand off keys to next guy , 500 back up. Full tanks would run just short of three days! Never bought a cheese sandwich from Kevin! Never even talked to him.But the ideas he uses work! I am just PO Ed that today , with all the computer power , sensors out the ying yang we can not get the mileage we could get back then! The gallon did not get smaller. But dismissing what he has to offer is short sighted. Today's areo and the advances made we should be getting just as good numbers running in the mountains?

I suggest getting the SiriusXm Onyx Plus. Great radio with 20 presets and a color display. I also suggest getting a trucker/rv antenna. provides better reception all the time. look at amazon. great deals.

I am not an O/O but have 35 years experience as a business owner. KR gives some great advice for first time O/O,s. Too many EGO's at play in this thread. Some of his technical advice is first rate. I am surprised he sunk to your level by posting on this forum. You don't have to agree with everything he says but to deny that he offers FREE useful info is strictly head in the sand. Dave Nemo does flog a lot of junk but he has some great guests. Homer Hawg puts anyone on this forum to shame. The guests who are experts on oils, and other mechanical issues are true pros! One has to learn to to ignore the junk and glean some knowledge from those who are smarter than you (or I). Knowledge has no value unless it is shared. How many in this thread share their super powers with other drivers?
