Hello everyone. Just here for a little advice. Next month will mark 2 years flatbed trucking experience working for a small trucking company in Texas owned by my "friend." My first year I ran over the road. The past year, I have to doing residential deliveries in a semi with a moffett on the trailer. I enjoy doing both types of work. I make $90k a year salary. The past 3 months I have had to beg to get my paychecks. I still haven't gotten paid for the past month. I assume he's just having trouble making payroll, but I can't get anyone to just admit that to me. I keep getting the run-around. On top of this, it's common for me to go a month or more without a single day off. I am asked to do illegal things on a weekly basis. I keep dealing with these circumstances, because I keep getting the promise that all my hard work for him will pay off and I'll be rewarded one day. I'm starting to feel like a sucker and all this dangerous stuff I'm doing will never pay off. I got pulled over the other day and the officer gave me a huge break. I could've been in a lot of trouble for a few things I was asked to do by my boss. I'm over living in constant fear of being pulled over and killing myself working for this man with no sign that things are going to get better. My question is, with 2 years flatbed experience, is there any chance I can get close to the kind of money I'm making now? I would like to move back to Florida where I am from and be based out of Florida. Obviously, I need to get away from this environment, I'm just curious if it's unrealistic to find the type of pay I'm making now. Thank you for any advice!

I like your plan -- except for that "Florida" part.
That will probably come back later to bite you in the ###.
A LOT of carriers (good ones) don't like hiring out of FL.
What part of the hurricane/man-eating gator/sinkhole state are we talking?

Talk to the labor board in your state. Unless you are a 1099 employee, they will help you. But if you dont have taxes taken out then they are going to ask You why

Honestly, however, @Chinatown might be a good hook up.
Where do you live? -

They also have a Georgia-based fleet.

Time to look for a new company. I worked for an outfit 15 years ago that started having issues paying people. Wasn't too long and the whole ship sank. Best of Luck -

There are other places in TX that are hiring. FLA is usually hard to get home to. Just say'in

Well he's a month behind and counting that's around$7000. He's behind on you. You think he's going to square up with you or just run you out the door -
Sounds like the company you work for didn't plan ahead very well. It's always best to jump off a sinking ship before it sucks you down with you still on it. At least the 'labor board' in your state can probably get your pay for you, since a bankrupt company must pay wages owned before anything else. I did the same years ago, leaving a failing company 6 months before they sank. People who stayed to the bitter end lost some pay once all the money was gone...
Gearjammin' Penguin, tscottme, hope not dumb twucker and 2 others Thank this.
