Hello, I am a recent CDL grad and have a skills check with a safety rep at a company tomorrow. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on what to expect? Thanks in advance

Do not try and show off to impress him.

Stick with the basics they gave you. Be sure to check the mirrors so that you are always aware of traffic around and ahead of you. Watching 15 seconds ahead will keep you from having to do any sudden lane changes or braking.

If you do catch yourself making a mistake Do Not panic. The biggest thing they will notice is if you are looking nervous. If you example you are unable to get it in gear while trying to downshift, do not let that divert your attention. Just say Woops and give it a steady brake till you are stopped at the light.

They expect you to make mistakes, best thing to do is show that making these little mistakes will not lead you to making a Huge mistake.

Thanks A Bug, that makes a lot of sense. I feel comfortable driving, I do grind a few gears but generally have no problems finding them, just need more repetition. I do need to remember to breathe

Commentary driving. Tell him what you see and what you are doing. Like, "on this right at the stop light I'm going to position the trailer to close the gap on anyone that wants to ease up on my right."

Thanks again for the advice. I GOT THE JOB!! Super excited! The rep was just checking to see how much I know. Did a pre trip, hooked up to a trailer, did bunch of backing and a 30 min or so road trip. Grinded some gears, lost a gear downshifting once but kept cool. Thanks again!

Not sure that is the best advice. Coasting is considered "out of control" to most safety departments.
I agree with everything else this driver mentioned.
