Well if you want this old cops advice it's pretty straight forward and simple, and that is obey the law and use common sense. I'm sure you guys know what I mean about that.

Truckers are scrutinized in their profession as much as cops. Except for cops off and duty misconduct or worse will surely cost your job w/o expecting any sympathy or worse. Truckers have a fine line to hold as well with immense consequences. In my 25 year career when I was in uniform Ivr pulled over 3 trucks all speeding related. 2 got a warning (I wasn't a trooper didnt feel cool screwing a career over speeding when a warning would have sufficed). The other guy, let me put it this way, a 1996 Tahoe is governed at 99 MPH. If I struggled to catch up to that bob tailed rig and still needed another unit to light him up, you will go to jail. Period. I even had to call a DRE trooper who was qualified to do field sobriety for whatever that guy was on.

Other than that the only other truckers I dealt with had to do with not exactly trucking involved activities. All ill say about that is that all contraband smugglers eventually get caught. If someone managed to get 3 loads of dope in the us before they were caught, quit now and buy a lottery ticket. I've only known of one dope smuggler who had more than 3 successful loads under his belt. He got caught too. Truckers / commercial shipper are about the only ones who get a break. If it's found that they wouldn't know it was in the trailer then they get a break. The contraband smuggling isn't just a shipper problem. Cops, passengers, farm workers,, ministers, grand parents, active duty you name it, I've seen the gamut.

As far as anal DOT inspectors and badge heavy cops, well that's life. I'm not immune from that either. It is what it is. The only advantage I would have is knowing what they can and cannot do within the color of law. But if I was pulled over for doing 1 mph over, then I would have to deal with that like anyone else.

    That's all I have.

Phoenix, I'm ok with OTR for a while. I've travelled all my life so going to other places isn't a problem. Plus I'm sure I'd enjoy the experience at least for a few years. I certainly love to see where I can take this career. O/O appeals to me, but never know if a good paying dedicated for a company may get my calling.

I'm seeing if anyone has experience with high risk loads, specialty cargo where LE background may work.

Wakenhut G4S manager had a chat with me the other day. All I need with them is class B with P, which I have and I speak Spanish. But as I said, I want to stay out of THAT for a while.

Abilene Motor Express hires out of Phoenix. This company has about the best reputation on here along with Magnum Ltd and Freymiller.

@MidWest_MacDaddy can answer questions about Abilene.

I'd like to be the first to thank you for your service in the armed forces.

Second, thank you for being a L.E.O., I know right now it has to be one of the hardest jobs in public service.

Also, since you have a commendable background, I would recommend you get a D.O.D. clearance to run sensitive freight for the army, navy, etc., get a hazmat and twic if possible.

Do company driver for 6 months, revisit the o/o after then, so you can determine if driving is for you. My best recommendation if you are starting out is to do the western 11, it is well worth it! I miss it a lot .

The last one that would count, even though it was 17 years ago, was the one I was ran off the road. The other 2 weren't accidents exactly. They wouldn't count against MVR as they were on duty deadly force encounters, the last of which was a fatality, not from the crash. After he went toe to toe with me he rammed me head on and after about 40 shots were exchanged he decided to permanently check himself out of this world with 2 rounds remaining. It happens.

And no. I didn't get that Fraulein. I was in traffic and rear ended a turk taxi driver. BUT, I did hook up the next week with some other chick at the Bad Durkheim wine festival. She was part of a leather wearing biker gang..... that rode around in Puch mopeds. LOL And the damage was about 2500 DM for that POS Opel taxi. 500 DM for my '79 BMW 318i.

And even though she was "big boned" not fat, she was very cute like in your see as a plus size model, not flabby. Last heard from her she did porn for a few years and married the mayor of Frankfurt. No ####. I googled her image and she's the same girl, and thin!

So yes, I rode that moped and was not ashamed to let my friends see me ride ##### in one. While my car was in the shop getting fixed I caught a lot of crap having her to take me back to post while I rode in the back seat of her moped while she wore her club leather jacket.

It'd be worth it to pull your MVR and background just to see what you actually need to disclose on an application. If it doesn't show up, don't tell them about it. You'll only confuse them with accidents that happened "off the books" so to speak.

Congrats on the ladies though, must've been the uniform lol

I just did that yesterday and got my 5 year certified record. Even my work related one was over 10 years ago. So its all clean.
And I think it was more the commissary ration card that got German chicks. LOL Actually neither of us smoked so that left coffee and booze. I really didn't use that card that much. We actually clicked pretty well, but she went to Hamburg for school and we parted ways. My next girlfriend was from Ireland, and before I left Germany I dated a Spanish chick for a few months and I'm now married to a born and raised Mexican. So I definitely traveled. lol
